"Kids can lose months of learning during the summer months. Summer reading is so important to combat the summer slide and make sure that kids return back to school on a good footing."
Our Reading Partners North Texas executive director, Jennifer Quick, spoke about the importance of summer reading for young learners on NBC DFW with Laura Harris. The conversation focused on three top tips for parents and guardians to remember when encouraging their young ones to read during the summer months.
1) β³ MINUTES: Reading doesn't have to be in the conventional way we think about.
2) π BEST TITLES FOR MY CHILD: Your local library is the best resource.
3) π FREE RESOURCES: Reading Partners North Texas offers several online resources. Find them here: https://readingpartners.org/resources/activity-sheets/

As we near the end of National Mental Health Awareness Month, Reading Partners encourages you to keep prioritizing your mental well-being π
For each of us, that can look different, but what matters most is being intentional about the things that support us.
And yes, reading (it's in our name π) is a powerful place to start:
π Brain boost β Reading daily keeps your mind sharp and improves memory
π Stress relief β A good book helps you escape daily worries and find calmness
π Better vocabulary β Reading expands your word bank, building confidence and connection
π Improved focus β Reading trains your brain to concentrate in a busy world
π What do you like to do to support your mental health?
