HOSPICE CHAT MONDAY

Here’s a question we hear often:

“Does hospice mean we have to stop all treatment?”

Not necessarily.

Hospice focuses on comfort and quality of life, but the hospice team works with the patient, family, and physicians to create an individualized plan of care.

The goal is never to simply “stop caring.”

The goal is to make sure the care being provided matches the patient’s wishes, needs, and goals.

A grandchild’s hug.

Looking through old photographs.

Sitting outside in the sunshine.

Sometimes the moments that seem small are the ones families remember forever.

Hospice care helps make room for those moments by focusing on comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

❌ MYTH: “If we call hospice, we can never change our minds.”

✅ FACT: Hospice care is a choice, and patients have the right to change their minds or discontinue hospice services.

Hospice is not a one-way door.

The goal is to make sure patients and families have access to the care and support that best fits their needs and wishes.

If you’re unsure whether hospice is right for your loved one, start with a conversation.

Sometimes getting answers is the first step. ❤️

A LITTLE LOVE FOR THE CAREGIVERS

Today we want to recognize the people who are often behind the scenes.

The daughter who never leaves Mom’s side.

The husband who gets up throughout the night.

The son who coordinates every appointment.

The spouse who is learning how to provide care while trying to process everything emotionally.

Caregiving is love in action but caregivers need support too.

Hospice isn’t just about caring for the patient. It’s also about supporting the family and caregivers walking beside them.

When people hear the word “hospice,” they often think only about the end of life. But hospice is so much more.

Hospice doesn’t take away hope it can help families find a different kind of hope: hope for comfort, connection, peace, and quality time together.

*Standing at the Threshold*

*Reflecting on Isaiah 43:19 (ESV)*

*"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."*

August's final day stands at the threshold of autumn. Thresholds are liminal spaces neither fully one thing nor another, but in-between. They're uncomfortable yet holy, because thresholds are where God often does new things.
Isaiah's declaration emerges from exile a threshold between what was and what would be. The people couldn't yet see what God was doing, but He assured them it was springing forth. Wilderness and desert would give way to way and river.
Hospice workers stand at thresholds regularly: the threshold between life and death, between wellness and illness, between who you were and who you're becoming. These in-between spaces can feel disorienting, but they're also where transformation occurs.

Psychologically, liminal spaces trigger both anxiety and creativity. The brain, faced with uncertainty, can either freeze in fear or open to possibility. Choosing curiosity over anxiety asking "what might God be doing?" rather than "what will go wrong?" transforms threshold experiences from threat to invitation.

As you stand at summer's threshold, consider: what new thing might God be doing? What is springing forth that you haven't yet perceived? The God who makes rivers in deserts is at work even when you can't see it.
Step forward in trust. The threshold is holy ground.

1. What threshold are you standing at professionally, personally, spiritually?
2. How do you typically respond to liminal spaces—anxiety or curiosity?
3. What new thing might God be doing that you haven't perceived yet?
4. What would stepping forward in trust look like at your threshold?

*Prayer:*
Threshold God, who does new things in in-between spaces, we stand at summer's end with open hands. Help us to perceive what You're springing forth, and to trust You in the wilderness. Make rivers in our deserts, we pray. Amen.
