ALDOT will close I-65 northbound at Exit 318 at Lacon in Morgan County for one night next week to repair the deck of the northbound bridge over the CSX railroad.
Weather permitting, ALDOT plans to close the northbound roadway about 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, and detour all northbound traffic to US-31.
The closure will continue into Wednesday, June 3. The time required for the repair and the duration of the closure will depend on the amount of time permitted for work above the railroad. Crews can work only when there is no train traffic.
ALDOT will temporarily reopen US-31 northbound for the duration of the I-65 closure. About one mile of US-31 just north of I-65 is currently closed for concrete slab replacement.
US-31 southbound between on US-31 and Lacon Road/Old Highway 31 and I-65 will remain closed.
A temporary signal at the junction of US-31 and the northbound off-ramp will regulate traffic.
From US-31, passenger traffic can take Thompson Road in Hartselle to I-65.
Commercial traffic must continue north to SR-67 in Decatur and return to I-65 in Priceville.
Wide loads must detour at Exit 310 in Cullman and take SR-157 northbound to SR-24 eastbound in Moulton and then SR-67 northbound to SR-20 eastbound in Decatur.
Message boards and signs will direct motorists. State troopers will assist with traffic control.
For real-time traffic and road condition information, visit ALGOtraffic.com or download the ALGO Traffic app.
Design is ongoing for replacement of the I-65 bridges over the CSX railroad, as well as the bridges over Flint Creek immediately south of the railroad. ALDOT currently anticipates letting the project in late FY2027.

CHECK NEW POST FOR UPDATES:
Outage 6/1/26:
12 AM Update:
Crews have restored power to more than 7,000 members since the severe thunderstorms passed though our area 10 hours ago. Approximately 3,000 members remain out of power in 98 separate power outages. Several crews will continue working throughout the night. For safety, other crews will be back on the job before sunrise after getting much needed rest.
9 PM Update:
Crews continue to work to restore outages, but now that there’s without daylight restoration tends to slow. We still have more than 3,500 members without power and more than 110 individual outages. More than 162,000 people are without power across central Alabama from today’s storms. Crews will continue working through the night to restore power. So far, our team has located more than 10 broken poles. Each takes a minimum of four hours to restore. We’ve called in additional contract crews to assist with restoration, but many may not have power well into tomorrow. We understand being without power is never convenient, and we appreciate your patience. Photos of some of the damage and restoration will be posted in the comments.
7 PM Update:
Power has been restored to around 1,000 more members. We still have over 4,000 members without power and still have more than 125 individual outages. This means there are a lot of smaller outages which means that each outage takes longer. Crews continue to assess and restore as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience.
6 PM Update:
Power has been restored to approximately 1,000 more members. We still have over 5,000 members without power. Most outages have been caused by large trees falling from outside of the right of way and taking down lines and poles. All of the rain over the past couple of weeks has made the ground saturated, making the trees unstable. Crews continue to work and assess damage and make repairs. We appreciate everyone’s patience. We’ve received notices from crews of trees on homes as well. We ask that you keep those families in your thoughts.
5 PM Update:
Power has been restored to approximately 2,000 more member. We still have more than 6,000 members without power with over 127 individual outages. Each one must be assessed, repairs made, etc. Please know that our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible.
4 PM Update:
Power has been restored to 2,000 members. We still have over 8,000 members without power. All available personnel have been dispatched to assess damage, clear right of ways, and begin power restoration.
3 PM Update:
We have over 10,000 members without power for a total of 150 outages. Right now we have several three phase poles down and lots of trees down on lines. All hands are on deck to assess the outages and begin restoration.
1:45 PM Update:
We have over 6000 members without power for a total of 82 outages. They will begin accessing outages, dispatching crews, and restoring power as soon as it is safe to do so.
As a reminder, social media and social media messages are not for reporting power outages. Please report all outages by calling or texting to 256-737-3200.
