Have you all ever eaten Gas Station Sushi? I have heard that this is some of the best sushi in Alabama. Completely unexpected, but so worth the trip to Jasper! Would love to try out their new space.

A popular Alabama restaurant known for serving some of the best sushi in the state out of an unexpected location -- a gas station -- recently made a big move.

Tucked away inside a Marathon gas station for more than a decade, Bayou Fresh Seafood & Deli in Jasper has garnered a reputation for having the “best gas station sushi in Alabama,” but in January of this year, owner Zhu Jianjun decided it was time to make the transition to a space of their own.

What began as a local holiday celebration in Cullman has grown into one of Alabama’s largest tourism attractions, earning statewide recognition as the Cullman Christkindlmarkt was named the Alabama Tourism Department’s 2026 Event of the Year.

The award recognizes the downtown festival’s impact on tourism, community engagement and economic development across Alabama. State tourism officials announced the honor ahead of the Alabama Governor’s Conference on Tourism, where the award will be formally presented July 13 in Florence.
