A huge thank you to The Salvation Army Crystal Lake Church of McHenry County for stopping by this morning with delicious treats for National Donut Day! 🍩❤️🍩
Beyond the morning pick-me-up, they shared the incredible history behind the tradition. Back in 1917, during WWI, Salvation Army volunteers traveled to the front lines in France to provide U.S. soldiers with supplies and fresh-fried donuts to lift their spirits. The women who served these treats became known as the "Donut Lassies."
Today, the Salvation Army carries on that legacy of comfort and care every first Friday of June. We truly appreciate the Salvation Army's continued support for our first responders!

Firefighter/Paramedic Noah Evans celebrated his one year anniversary with the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department, marking the official end of his probationary period. Noah has performed outstandingly during his first year, and we are proud to have him as part of our department. Congratulations, Noah!

Today, we responded to a call about ducklings trapped in a storm drain. Upon arrival, we discovered eight little ducklings who had slipped through the grate. Aside from being a bit dirty, all eight were safely rescued and reunited with their mom, who was watching from a nearby bush!

Today, we honor the fallen heroes who gave their lives protecting our nation, our freedom, and our futures. This Memorial Day, and every day, we are deeply grateful for their sacrifice.

Tomorrow is the Crystal Lake Police Department’s Dunkin’ Cop on a Rooftop event. Be sure to stop by to say hello and support Special Olympics Illinois!

Last week, we celebrated the graduation of one of our probationary firefighter/paramedics and two of our interns from the Fire Academy at McHenry County College.

Huge congratulations to Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic Jordan Groth and interns Mia and Katelyn on completing the rigorous Basic Operations Firefighter Program!

Over the past few days, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department teamed up with our partners in MABAS Division 5 for a series of Hazmat training drills.

These exercises provided our firefighters with the opportunity to sharpen their response skills, focusing on high pressure scenarios such as:

▪ Mayday Procedures: Managing emergencies involving a firefighter during a Hazmat event.

▪ Decontamination: Mastering the proper techniques for assisting a contaminated member.

▪ Scene Operations: Practicing how to effectively set up, manage, and work a complex Hazmat scene from arrival to stabilization.
