The biggest congratulations to Bruno and his owner Kacie for finishing up their final private lesson! Bruno’s final test was hanging out in the down while multiple dogs were being trained around him and this dude did amazing!

🎓 Demure’s Graduation Day 🐾

When I first met Demure, he bit me during his evaluation.

When I picked him up, he needed a muzzle and two slip leads just to safely get him to the truck. For the first few days of training, he growled every time I approached him because the world felt like a scary place.

Today, he’s a completely different dog.

The same dog who once reacted out of fear can now calmly sit while people walk right by him. He’s learned that staying calm and trusting his handler gets him much farther than reacting ever could.

This is why I love what I do. Helping dogs build confidence and showing them the world doesn’t have to be something to fear.

Congratulations, Demure. I’m proud of you, buddy. 👏🐾

What’s the perfect dog?

A while ago, I probably would’ve said it’s the dog with a wall full of titles, flawless obedience, and never makes a mistake.

Now? I think the perfect dog is the one that comes into your life when you least expect it. The one that isn’t perfect. The one that makes mistakes, learns from them, and still chooses to be by your side every day.

Titles, accolades, and pedigree don’t make the dog. They can tell part of the story, but they don’t define it.

The relationship you build, the time you invest, and the trust you earn—that’s what makes a great dog.

Don’t chase the “perfect” dog. Build the perfect relationship with the dog you have.

Let’s talk about training equipment, its purpose, and how it all works together.

One thing we don’t do at Bombshell Kennels is just throw a prong collar or e-collar on a dog and expect it to listen. Every tool has a purpose, and every tool is introduced with clear communication.

Slip Lead:
One of my favorite tools because it’s so versatile. I can create distance or shorten it instantly. I can apply pressure, release it, or let the dog make the choice. The dog learns that its decisions control the pressure, which builds understanding.

Prong Collar:
Prongs may look intimidating, but they’re designed with blunted ends and are meant to communicate, not punish. Most of the time, I never have to give a hard correction. A simple tap is usually enough because the dog already understands what’s being asked.

E-Collar:
Freedom. Once a dog understands pressure, boundaries, and expectations, the e-collar becomes a hands-free leash. It reinforces everything the dog learned on the slip lead and prong, giving you reliable communication and your dog the freedom to safely enjoy more of the world.
