A power outage this morning decided to add a little ✨unplanned excitement✨ to bake day and put me behind schedule. 😅 So rather than trying to perform bakery miracles, I’m rolling with it!

TODAY: Fresh sourdough loaves 🍞
TOMORROW: The stand will be stocked back up with all the goodies — cookies, brownies, bagels, and more!

🍞 A LITTLE ABOUT THE GIRL BEHIND THE BREAD

I realized there are quite a few new faces around here, so hi! I’m Kyla — the baker, owner, delivery driver, dishwasher, social media manager, professional flour spiller, and occasional hostage negotiator for a sourdough starter named Optimus Rise. 😂

I’m a wife and mama to three kiddos, so when I’m not baking, there’s a pretty good chance I’m doing school drop-off, sitting at a baseball field, chasing a toddler, or reheating the same cup of coffee for the fourth time.

Home Loaf Sourdough started in 2023, but definitely not because I had some big plan to open a bakery.

We were living in Virginia as a military family, and I was struggling with postpartum depression after having our second baby. I picked up sourdough because I needed something that felt like mine again. Something to learn, something to look forward to, and something that gave me a little piece of myself back.

I started with three loaves baked in Dutch ovens.

That’s it.

Somehow those three little loaves turned into moving to Florida, farmers markets, hundreds of loaves, a bread stand at our home, more flour than any normal household should possess, and a sourdough starter with a bigger personality than most people I know. 😂

And while Home Loaf has grown, life around here is still very much… life.

Sometimes the bread is beautiful.
Sometimes Optimus decides we’re simply ✨not working today✨.
Sometimes my kitchen looks like a flour bomb went off.
Sometimes I’m baking at an hour when sensible people are sleeping.
And sometimes my kids are right beside me stealing chocolate chips.

But I genuinely love what this little business has become. 🤎

Home Loaf was born during one of the harder seasons of my life, and I’ll never stop being amazed at how God can take something so small and turn it into something you never saw coming.

That’s why John 6:35 — “I am the bread of life” will always be at the heart of Home Loaf. 🤍

So that’s me.

Kyla. Mama of three. Wife. Sourdough baker. Slightly chaotic. Usually covered in flour. Running primarily on faith, caffeine, and whatever mood Optimus Rise woke up in that morning. 🍞😂

And yes… please enjoy my contribution to the “ask ChatGPT to make you a mascot” bandwagon. 😂 Apparently Optimus Rise needed a face, a chef hat, and his own wooden spoon. The fact that ChatGPT somehow captured his chaotic energy this accurately is mildly concerning.

So yep — that’s us. Me, three kids, one husband, an unreasonable amount of flour, and one very temperamental starter running the show.
