October 4-10, 2026 Fire Prevention Week

Week 6 is officially complete. The recruits began the week completing ladder and tactical vent skills. We completed a Settee on 9/23 with 29 personnel from three different departments (HCFD, CFD, and NCFS). The maze and ladder climb was completed on 9/24 with the help of B shift personnel. We had a 100% pass rate on the maze! The recruits also began working on hose advancement and pinch point management as we prepare them for structural fire control. Lectures covered this week included: Ch. 12 tactical ventilation, Ch. 15 Overhaul, and Ch. 7 Portable Fire Extinguishers.

NCFS Blood Drive Monday 10/5/26 11-4

Week 5 is officially complete! We had several personnel from A Shift that assisted with search and rescue skills, B shift helped with VEIS and hose deployment, and C shift assisted with RIT familiarization and got the air and light to the training facility to fill bottles. It is greatly appreciated!

This week we concentrated on amping up gear acclimation and search techniques.

Big Milestones Completed in Week 5:
Nuts and Bolts Drill, VEIS, Primary Search/Safe Haven, & Disoriented FF/Denver Drill.
Curriculum Covered: Ch. 11 search and rescue, ch. 14 fire suppression, and ch. 9 ladders

Week 6 will be a very busy and demanding week for our recruits. If you would like to participate in any of the following events, let me know - we would love to have you.

On September 14, 2026, Newton County Fire Service personnel responded to a residential structure fire involving a kitchen fire. Upon arrival, crews were faced with a smoke-filled residence and a bedridden occupant who was unable to self-evacuate. Recognizing the immediate threat to the occupant's life, Firefighter Michael Mason and PartTime Firefighter Tion Sanders, members of Truck 7, were directed to enter the structure and locate, remove, and extricate the bedridden resident. Working together under extremely challenging conditions, the Truck 7 members successfully located and removed the bedridden resident from the smoke-filled structure, bringing the occupant to a position of safety. The patient was immediately provided appropriate care by fire personnel and subsequently transferred to Central EMS for further assessment, treatment, and continued medical care. Their actions exemplify the highest traditions of the fire service.

On Friday, members of NCFS alongside the the Covington Fire Department and Henry County Fire Department participated in the Honor Hike and climbed to the top of Stone Mountain in their full gear to remember 9/11 victims and heroes.

NCFS was also well represented at the Tunnels to Towers 5K.

EXCITING NEWS!!!

Yesterday many of our cadets chose to meet on Labor Day, and it was an exciting day, as they were able to receive their issued bunker gear! Thank you to Takeda for the generous donation, and Lt. Donald Bowen for assisting in acquiring this tremendous asset.

The cadet program is holding 14 strong, and we are optimistic about the future growth and success of the program. Thank you Lt. Branden Newton for leading this program, Lt. Ryan Cummings for consistently assisting, and all the shift personnel for coming together to get this program off the ground. Your time, talent, and efforts are greatly appreciated, and you all are doing a great job in this endeavor.
