Soyu Long Chinese Cucumber! A friend grew this one, but I harvested a smaller one last night. Since moving to Conroe, my cucumbers and squash have been attacked by Squash Vine Bores…so far, so good this year!

Raise your hand if you turned your sprinkler on and forgot to turn it off…for hours…or even over night. I sell a great way to prevent it from happening again. Set the sprinkler where you need it. Just attach this timer to the hose bib and the hose on the other side. Turn the water on and set the dial for up to 2 hours. The timer will stop the water, when it’s run through the time you set. You can bypass the timer by setting it to the “manual on” position, as needed. While you’re at it, replace the washers on your other hoses and attachments with silicone washers. These are far superior to rubber or plastic.

Watch out for new fledglings! Dad was near by, giving the stink eye.
