Here's what most people miss — in Texas, your lease decides how much notice you must give before moving out, and the standard is 30 days, but many leases require 60. Miss the deadline by even a day and you can owe a full extra month of rent, or get auto-renewed into another term.
Do this before you sign:

• Find the notice clause — how many days, and does it have to be in writing?
• Check whether the lease auto-renews (and at what rent)
• Set a calendar reminder for your notice date the day you move in
• Ask the leasing office to confirm your notice terms in an email you keep
The cheapest move is the one you planned for.

As a REALTOR® and someone who spent years working in property management, I’ve seen people submit fake pay stubs, altered bank statements, and other documents just to get approved for an apartment.

But here’s the thing: technology is catching up.

Management companies have more tools than ever to verify employment, income, bank information, and the documents applicants submit. What might have worked a few years ago may be much easier to catch today.

And it’s not worth risking your lease, your money, your reputation, or potentially facing legal consequences over an apartment.

If you don’t meet a property’s requirements, talk to an apartment locator or the leasing office. There may be other options or properties that fit your situation.

Don’t fake it. Find a legitimate solution.
