💡 Fun Fact Friday -- Medicare Edition!

Did you know Medicare isn't only for people age 65 and older? Some people can become eligible for Medicare before their 65th birthday.

♿ Disability
People under 65 who qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) generally become eligible for Medicare after receiving disability benefits for 24 months. Medicare Parts A and B typically begin automatically on the first day of the 25th month.

🧠 ASL (Lou Gehrig's disease)
People diagnosed with ALS do not have the usual waiting periods. Medicare Parts A and B generally begin automatically the same month their Social Security Disability benefits begin.

🩺 ESRD (End-Stage Renal Disease)
People with permanent kidney failure who need regular dialysis or a kidney transplant may qualify for Medicare at any age if they meet Medicare's eligibility requirements. ➡️ For those receiving dialysis, Medicare coverage generally begins on the first day of the fourth month of treatment, although some exceptions apply. ➡️ For those receiving a transplant, Medicare may begin the month you're admitted to a Medicare-certified hospital for the transplant or pre-transplant services.

Medicare eligibility isn't always about reaching a certain birthday. Your health circumstances and eligibility for certain benefits can also determine when Medicare coverage becomes available.

Medicare Part B covers a screening mammogram once every 12 months for women age 40 and older? When your provider accepts assignment, you pay nothing for the screening mammogram.

✅ DIAGNOSTIC MAMMOGRAMS
These are also covered by Medicare when medically necessary, but Part B cost-sharing may apply.

💕 Take this month as a great reminder to check in with your healthcare provider and make sure you're up to date on the preventive screenings that are right for you.

📣 We've reached the last quarter of 2026!

💰 If your Medicare Advantage plan includes an Over-the-Counter (OTC) benefit, now is a great time to check your remaining balance.

🚫 Depending on your plan, unused OTC funds may expire and may not roll over into the new year. Don't let available benefits go unused!

✅ Check your plan for your remaining balance, eligible items and deadlines by logging into your member account via your plan's website.

📣 It's June 1st which means it's the last month of the 2nd quarter!

🚫 Most OTC benefits do not roll over to the next quarter, so if you don't use them, you LOSE them!
