Oberlin College | 1971
In 1971, Brenda Way received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to bring the Grand Union Collective to Oberlin College. During this residency, student Nancy Stark Smith studied with Steve Paxton, beginning a collaboration that would help shape the development of Contact Improvisation.

Richens/Timm Academy of Irish Dance | 1970
In 1970, Ann Richens, a native of Dublin, Ireland, began traveling throughout Ohio teaching Irish dance. Her dedication helped preserve and share Irish cultural traditions while inspiring generations of dancers across the state.

At our fully accessible studios in Midtown Cleveland, the School of Dancing Wheels is a multi-arts school that offers classes throughout the week from September through June for individuals of all abilities, ages 3 to adult. The School of Dancing Wheels offers our community-level, physically integrated dance classes in-studio and online. Classes include Contemporary, Capoeira, Combo Class, Jazz Funk, Hip-Hop, Ballet/Wheelchair Technique, and Performance Ensemble.

Celebrate 45 years of innovation at The Dancing Wheels Company & School’s Gala Benefit Performance, an unforgettable evening of dance and music. The program features choreography by renowned artist Dianne McIntyre, alongside works by Annette Ellis and Angelina DiFranco. Set to iconic songs by female artists of the 1980s, the performance captures the bold energy and spirit of the era. Audiences will experience the artistry of the Dancing Wheels Company, joined by performers from the School of Dancing Wheels, in a powerful tribute to legacy and creativity.
