Did you know that white-footed mice carry the Lyme pathogen, while deer and other mammals only spread tick populations and not the disease? Don't be lulled into thinking there is no chance of contracting Lyme if there are no deer in your area. The reports are saying the 2017 tick season will be extremely bad. When hiking or walking in nature, wear light clothing, tuck your pants into the tops of your socks, wear tick repellent (something that is both human and pet-friendly), and conduct daily tick scans. Check your pets daily as well, even if they are indoor only. We bring all sorts of things in with us unknowingly and a tiny "deer" tick can escape unnoticed quite easily. And look in unexpected places, such as around the gum line as shown in the picture.
