Upgrades to this rural route in Calhoun County are almost complete! 🚧
SCDOT contractors are finishing up a pavement improvement project along nearly 2.5 miles of US 176, between Country Club Road and the US 601 intersection.
This project, located right outside of the town of St. Matthews, is on track to be completed by September! A separate repaving project further south on US 176 has already been planned to begin construction within the next year. ✅
SCDOT recently held our 2026 Innovation Challenge Showcase, bringing together new innovations from our employees across the state to inspire new ideas! 💡
Every year, the Innovation Challenge Showcases recognizes the outstanding ideas from SCDOT employees who found new ways to make their workflow better and, in turn, be more efficient in serving South Carolina’s motorists. 🚗
See recent SCDOT innovations on our website that are being recognized statewide and nationally, while making an everyday difference in our projects!

The Baskins Hill Road (S-29-47) bridge over Baskins Creek in Lancaster County has reopened. Located roughly nine miles southeast of Lancaster, construction on the project began in late 2025 before wrapping up with the new bridge opening on July 31.
The bridge was previously load-restricted and then closed prior to construction. This project highlights SCDOT’s ongoing efforts to reduce the number of load-posted bridges across South Carolina.
Crews are actively working to improve safety at the intersection of Shannon Road and Foxboro Road, just south of the City of Marion, in Marion County.
The scope of the project includes realigning Foxboro Road, eliminating a yield, and removing a stop sign to turn this intersection into a more traditional cross intersection.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of August.

Whether you walk, bike, run, roll or simply want to see safer and more connected options for getting around, we want to hear from you.
Take the survey and share where improvements are needed, what’s working, and how we can make it easier and safer to get where you need to go.

🎉 SCDOT is celebrating improvements to 700 crosswalks across the Lowcountry!
SCDOT would like to thank the counties, local municipalities, and partner agencies who helped make enhancements to 700 crosswalks across the Lowcountry possible.
Pedestrian crossings in Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, and Jasper counties now feature upgraded designs and new installations that improve visibility, safety, and accessibility.
The work included new pavement markings, ADA ramps, pedestrian crossing signals with modernized push buttons, and signal timing enhancements.
These upgrades are designed to help reduce pedestrian-related crashes while creating safer, more pedestrian-friendly communities across South Carolina.
Know of a state-maintained road near you that needs an issue addressed? Let us know! Use the SCDOT Maintenance Work Request form online to let our crews know what's happening on your road. From signs down to fallen tree limbs, SCDOT crews are here to help. 👷
