🛣️ SCDOT crews in Lancaster County have recently resurfaced SC 522! Just over 4 miles of roadway was improved with brighter pavement markings and reinstalled rumbled strips.
As peak paving season continues, remember to drive cautiously when traveling near the work zone. 🚧
⚠️ Crews are making progress on widening I-95 from the Georgia line. ⚠️
Traffic has shifted away from the median along the initial 8-mile stretch of the interstate as travelers drive in from Georgia. This will allow crews to safely start expanding bridges and creating new inside travel lanes.
Later this year, traffic will shift again toward the median as crews keep widening this section of I-95 from 4 to 6 travel lanes. 🛣️

We’re upgrading your roads in Orangeburg County! ⚠️
SCDOT recently finished repaving about 10 miles of SC-210 between Bowman and I-95. We’re now working to repave about 7 miles of US 178 between Bowman and Branchville, which is on track to be done by July.
We’re making the roads smoother, the shoulders wider, and the drive safer for those who regularly travel these highways. ✅

🚧 A paving machine, also called a paver, works like a giant moving assembly line.
Dump trucks load hot asphalt into the hopper on the front of the machine. The paver then spreads the material evenly across the road, using sensors to measure the slope and width so the system knows exactly how much asphalt to place for a smooth surface.
Next, rollers come through to compact the asphalt into the finished roadway.
It takes a full team working together to keep the process moving safely and efficiently!

The Old Vaucluse Road bridge over I-20 has officially reopened to traffic! 👏
Crews have been working tirelessly to replace the bridge after being damaged in June 2025. Not only has the bridge been rebuilt, it’s been improved to serve this Aiken County community better than before. 🤝
If you drive past this bridge on I-20, make sure to slow down for the SCDOT contractors who are still working in the area!

This ride through Orangeburg and Calhoun counties is about to be a lot smoother. 😎
SCDOT is finishing up a project to repave more than six miles of US 21, starting near Cartwright Road at the Calhoun County line. The repaving is on track to be completed by September.
⚠️ Look out for signage along the road and slow down through the work zone to make sure crews can stay safe and construction can wrap up on schedule! ⚠️
If you’re traveling through Newberry, Laurens, or Anderson counties, you may notice crews hard at work along I-26 and I-85. 🚧Crews are working overnight to install a new surface, improving safety and ride quality for drivers.
If you see crews working, please slow down and give them enough space to do their jobs. The projects in Laurens and Anderson counties are expected to wrap up this fall, while work in Newberry County is anticipated to be completed later this summer.
