Today was Joey’s first time experiencing the bemer. I think he’s a fan!
Frisco helping to release tension from the base of his neck 😌
What is an easy thing you can do to help your horse feel and perform their best? Consider an active rest day!
Try turning one of your days off from riding each week into an active rest day which could include a vigorous grooming (as long as the horse isn’t too sensitive), a light massage, time on balance pads, gentle activations, or hand walking. Gently moving the body can sometimes support recovery better than no activity at all.

What is an easy way to help your horse feel and perform their best? Think of the small comforts!
- Take the extra second to make sure their mane is lying flat under the bridle and the buckles are evenly situated before buckling
- Keep hooves low while picking their feet to avoid hyper flexion of their joints
- Feed on the ground or close to it
- Place the saddle gently on the back and lift it up when taking it off instead of pulling it to the side
- Tighten the girth slowly and one hole at a time
- Use cross ties long enough for the head to be held in a natural position that isn’t too high
Small things during your every day handling of your horse add up to a happier horse!

What is an easy thing you can do to help your horse feel and perform their best? Stretching!
Allowing periods of stretching during work and targeted stretches after working can help to reduce tension build up and enhance flexibility. Do not stretch before exercise! It can do more harm than good.
Stretching improves range of motion. If something is held in the same position all the time it will only create tension.

Five years ago today I saw my first client as a certified equine bodyworker! Five years of helping all kinds of horses from retirees and kids’ ponies to high level dressage horses and hunter/jumpers. Thank you to all my wonderful clients! 🥳
What is an easy way to help your horse feel and perform their best? Walking!
Be sure to walk your horse on a loose rein for at least 10-15 minutes before AND after working. Walking before work allows their muscles to warm up and joints to get lubricated. Walking after work allows their respiration rate to return to normal, help to flush muscles of cellular waste, and prevent tension build up.
What is an easy way to help your horse feel and perform their best? Curry them!
Using a curry comb on your horse as often as you are able, year round, will bring many benefits.
Currying removes loose hair, dirt, and debris, distributes natural oils, reduces build up commonly seen on the cannon area and breaks up restrictive fascia, increases circulation, and soothes muscles.

I was working on a lesson pony the other day when a little girl came up to me and asked if she could ask me a question. She said she leases the pony and is there anything she could do to help him. Be still my heart, future generation of horse girl! Yes, you can definitely do things to help!
This week I will be sharing some easy things to help your horse feel and perform their best!
