🚦 Rail Safety Week: Know the Signs. Obey the Signals. Stay Safe.

Railway signs and signals are there to protect you:

🛑 Stop when lights are flashing
🔔 Listen for warning bells
🚧 Never drive around lowered gates
🚆 Wait until the signals stop and the tracks are completely clear before crossing

Never assume it is safe to cross. A train may be closer—and moving faster—than it appears.

See Tracks? Think Train!

🚆 See a blue and white sign at a railroad crossing? It could help prevent a tragedy.

Federal rules require Emergency Notification System (ENS) signs at public railroad crossings. Usually posted on a crossing signal or near the roadway, each sign lists the railroad’s emergency phone number and a unique crossing ID.

If a vehicle is stuck on the tracks, a signal is malfunctioning, or you notice another hazard, call the number on the sign at that crossing and give the dispatcher the crossing ID. This helps the railroad identify the exact location and respond quickly.

If your vehicle is stuck, get everyone out and away from the tracks immediately. Then call the railroad using the ENS sign and call 911. If you cannot find a sign, call 911.

Take a moment to notice where these signs are when you travel through a crossing. Knowing what to look for can help keep our community safe.

🚆 Rail Safety Week: If It Doesn’t Fit, Don’t Commit!

Before entering a rail crossing, make sure there is enough space on the other side for your entire vehicle. Never stop on the tracks—even if traffic ahead begins moving.

If you cannot completely clear the crossing, stay back and wait. A few extra moments could save your life.

See Tracks? Think Train!

REMINDER Happening Tomorrow

09/11/2026

Today, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and remember the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

Twenty-five years later, their bravery continues to remind us of the strength found in service, sacrifice, and unity. The Clinton Police Department is proud to stand alongside our area firefighters, emergency medical professionals, dispatchers, emergency management personnel, and all who dedicate their lives to protecting our community.

On this day of remembrance, let us come together as one community and one nation. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
