Ashbury Senior Computer Community Center
ASC3 is a senior-focused technology training center on Ashbury Ave, located in Cleveland, OH.
Ashbury Senior Computer Community Center (ASC³), a 501c-3 non-profit organization, located at 11011 Ashbury Avenue, established in October of 2002 With an “Intergenerational Learning” approach to our programs, we assist in closing the generational digital gap, decreasing disparities in the use and understanding of technology for our mature adults, elders and youth. The mission of ASC³ will be fulfilled when use of technology in under-served communities is demystified and no longer viewed as a threat or something foreign used by others. Participants of ASC³ gain a basic understanding of computer concepts, learn to operate the computer (as well as other devices), and learn how to use the Internet safely and efficiently. The ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of their lives through application of technical knowledge, access and hands on experience.

Microsoft is retiring its built-in SMS and voice multi-factor authentication (MFA) for Microsoft Entra ID in favor of more secure, phishing-resistant authentication methods like passkeys.
Key Dates
• September 1, 2026: Users who currently use SMS or voice MFA will automatically be prompted to register a passkey after completing MFA.
• February 1, 2027: Microsoft-provided SMS and voice authentication will no longer be available.
• After February 1, 2027: Users who only have SMS or voice configured will be blocked from signing in until they register a passkey. This requirement cannot be disabled.
Who is affected?
Only organizations with users currently using Microsoft-provided SMS or voice authentication. Organizations already using other authentication methods or customer-managed telecom providers are not impacted.
Recommended Actions
1. Identify users still using SMS or voice MFA.
2. Enable passkeys and encourage users to register them before September 1, 2026.
3. Inform users about the upcoming change.
4. If SMS or voice authentication is still required for business or regulatory reasons, evaluate a customer-managed telecom provider before February 1, 2027.
Bottom Line
Microsoft is moving to phishing-resistant authentication as the default to better protect against phishing, SIM-swapping, and other attacks. Organizations should transition affected users to passkeys before February 1, 2027 to avoid sign-in disruptions.
