Left Behind
A visual archive of what we leave in our wake—forgotten places, discarded relics, and the quiet reminders of our fleeting existence.
Grim, ironic, and a little too real.
Once, this place promised comfort. Inside these walls, the White Dove Mattress factory stitched together softness, rest, and the quiet hope of a good night’s sleep for thousands of Cleveland families. Now the machines are silent. Windows are shattered. Dust drifts through broken doorways where workers once clocked in. I filmed it like a fading memory — scratched film, flickering light — because this isn’t just an abandoned warehouse. It’s a monument to dreams that were built here… and the dust they eventually became.
Hidden in the trees, a brick tower watches the river it once commanded. From here, steel bridges rose and fell, freight thundered past, and the Cuyahoga carried the pulse of a working city. Now the machinery is gone, the voices faded, and vines climb where operators once stood. Rust replaces motion. Silence replaces industry. The river keeps moving, but the tower remains — holding the memory of a Cleveland that never sleeps, even after it has.
Left Behind…
This is Judy’s Hand Pavilion, the giant hand sculpture outside MOCA Cleveland. Artist Tony Tasset modeled it after his wife’s hand and blew it up to monumental size so people could gather under it. It’s part artwork, part pavilion, and a little surreal no matter how you look at it. Here’s my slightly crazy take on it—because when you call something Judy’s Hand, you just know it’s gonna get weird.
“I came back to Hinckley Lake… hoping to find some comfort.
When life gets heavy, I thought maybe the water… the memories… could carry me for a while.
But when I got here, the lake was gone.
Drained. Empty.
And in a way… it felt familiar.
Because sometimes, that’s how life feels too.
Empty where it used to be full.
But maybe… just like the lake, this is only temporary.
The water will return… and so will I.”
