Lake Erie needs our help.
A cleveland.com article found that while Lake Erie replaces its water every 2.6 years, microplastics stay in the lake for over a decade. Even if microplastics do leave the lake, they simply relocate to other bodies of water, never fully breaking down.
CLEANR was born and raised in Cleveland, so this is an issue that’s close to our hearts. The ocean is the lungs of our planet!

Microplastics affect more than our water – soil is a vulnerable part of our ecosystem that also faces heavy exposure to microplastics.

Welcome to Plastic Free July!
Check our page throughout the month to see new stories, scientific breakdowns, and Pod pictures from our lab in Cleveland.
To start things off, we wanted to remind our CLEANR community how far we’ve come. 174 billion microplastics and 1.6 million gallons of water is a sizeable impact, and while there’s more work to be done, it’s important to celebrate the work our community has put in to fight microplastics.
