April 7th and 8th, 2026 are days that will live in infamy for produce farmers in Northeast Ohio. That's when temperatures dropped below freezing for just a few hours, but it was enough to rock fruit harvests for the season.
Quarry Hill Orchards co-owner Ben Gammie and Cleveland Magazine's Christina Rufo joined me to talk about the challenges for this growing season in our latest installment of our food series, The Menu, produced in partnership with Cleveland Magazine.

The organizers of People's Budget Cleveland are behind a pilot project in Slavic Village where community members ages 13 voted on how $100,000 would be spent in their neighborhood. PB CLE's Cassie Parker and Slavic Village resident Chuck Gliha told me why they think this is more efficient than decision-making by city council, as PB CLE prepares to expand this program to the Ward level across Cleveland.

As of today, I’m officially 1 year into my Public Media Nerd era 🤓 and I’m loving it!
I’m so proud to have been representing Northeast Ohio’s connection to NPR and PBS WVIZ at Ideastream Public Media for the last 365 days. Getting to host The Sound of Ideas is such an honor, and I’m so lucky to get to connect with so many of you there every day! I look forward to the many conversations to come, but for now, happy 1 year work-iversary to me! 🤗

On Sunday, the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation will host its annual One World Day event, celebrating the city's diversity despite the current political climate. The gardens' executive director Tom Turkaly, African American Cultural Garden executive director Obie Shelton, and One World Day chair and Irish Cultural Garden head delegate Sheila Crawford told me why these connections are meaningful.
