Tomatoes are a summertime favorite in Northeast Ohio gardens. Rich in vitamins C and K and packed with lycopene, an antioxidant that supports heart health, tomatoes are as nutritious as they are delicious. Whether sliced fresh, tossed into a salad, or made into sauce, locally grown tomatoes are a great way to enjoy the season’s harvest while supporting a healthier food system.

Many of our schools are closing with the end of this school year - it has been such a pleasure and honor to have worked with LMA for the past 5 school years, growing our garden and cooking healthy foods together. We are grateful for every moment of it - to honor that time together, we invited students to write ways that they have grown through the program on strips of fabric and weave those into the word grow on the fence at the school. This will now live on at the superior Ave garden and continue to inspire others to keep growing through difficult times and unexpected transitions.

This is the first of four weekly events that’ll be held throughout the month of June. This engaging program is designed to help you build practical skills, learn more about where your food comes from, and discover simple ways to incorporate fresh, seasonal foods into your everyday life.

Fresh, local food starts with simple crops that nourish our neighborhoods from the ground up.

Bring a friend, meet some great people, and spend your day making a real impact!

Our 3rd–6th graders at Near West helped us cook fried rice, and it was a huge hit with everyone. Some of the students said, “We should have this every day!” and “This is the best fried rice I have ever had!” We love seeing students get excited about cooking, trying new foods, and learning together in the kitchen.
