April 22, 2026 weekly update. Leaves on trees and flowers.

Hardy banana update. 4/15/26. All three have sprouted. The Mekong Giant is the newest member so I’m happy to see it emerging. Of course the basjoo is already heading towards the sky. The Sikkimese red tiger is always the last to emerge. It is hinting at life but until that first leaf it’s always a surprise.

This Kansan Cherry was planted in the first spring after we bought this house. It was maybe 18 inches tall. This tree is notable for its large double flowers. Not as famous as the Sakura Cherry, which is most commonly associated with “cherry blossom time, it is a beautiful tree nonetheless.
