In college, I stayed up past midnight watching an NHL game I’d bet 12 cents on. TWELVE CENTS. Couldn’t tell you who was playing, but my heart was racing.
That’s when I knew: if I wanted to enjoy sports, money had to stay completely out of it.
Now you can’t watch a game without seeing betting ads everywhere. ESPN has its own platform. The NBA is partnering with sportsbooks. It’s big business—and they’re making millions off people’s compulsion.
But here’s what they don’t tell you: Most people lose. The house always wins. And what starts as “just for fun” becomes a prison people pay to get into.
God’s design for your money is generosity, stewardship, and wisdom—not feeding an industry built on compulsion.
Enjoy the game. Don’t bet on it. The real win is your freedom to just… watch.
