What’s been going on over at Apropos? While we figure out all of the logistics of getting construction started (applying for tax abatement has been consuming our every waking moment the past week) we did find a few moments to celebrate the building with friends. We had a pizza/skate party, where we invoked all the good vibes with some white witch manifesting and shared swigs of bourbon. Just like the pizza/skate parties of our youth! 😂 Already filling that space with love and laughter!

This little frolic through the garden got to go to Derby last weekend. The embroidered flowers were wired and positioned to leave room for real flowers, which my client slid in expertly and looked gorgeous all damn day. Look how elegant she is! Love it.

I’m excited to finally share some big (very big, the BIGGEST) news publicly!

Anyone who has spent more than 4 minutes with me and/or attended a workshop over the last year and a half has heard a bit about this, and you may remember a sneak peek last fall of what’s been underway .

Buckle up.

My husband Jason and I bought a building. An empty warehouse in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Westwood to be precise. It is on Stathem avenue, just around the corner from Harrison avenue, in the DORA district, behind Wondercade and Game n Groove. You Westside history nerds may remember it as part of the Keidel compound, where the plumbing supplies were kept.

So what are we doing with it? We are converting it into an art center called Apropos Art Society, which will consist of 8 artist studios, a classroom for public workshops, and an art gallery.

We have been working with the owners of the property for a year and a half to privately purchase this lot, which was previously part of game n groove and Wondercade. The subdivision of the property through the city took one full year. We genuinely all thought we’d have it last summer, but we were young and naive then. We are much older and wiser now 😂.

But we all persevered and closed on it last Friday. Now the work really begins! We have exciting plans underway. Our architect and contractor have both been in to look at it and we can’t wait to work some magic with them.

I have a few spots left in my Visble Mending: Sashiko Stitching and Embroidering Transferred Imagery class at the Weavers Guild next Tuesday, May 5th from 6-8pm.

This is such a fun way to personalize your clothing. I will show you a variety of ways to transfer line drawings onto your clothing for embroidery, as well as show you my favorite stitches for the job.

I saved the best camp workshop for last. I don’t normally pick favorites, but I’m super excited about this! At camp abbydid this fall, Trish will be teaching us how to create Kinusaiga, a new technique of fabric collage from Japan. This is a beginner friendly, no sew project that makes for an excellent way to use up your scraps.

Workshop instruction is included with your camp registration, the kit is essentially just a materials fee. In this case, it gives you not only every single thing you’ll need to make your own masterpiece, but also access to Trish’s impressive fabric stash. That is a treat, I promise you!

Okay, registration will go live 9am, this Saturday, April 25. The rooms are currently marked as sold out, even though they’re not, this is just how I make the listings dormant until registration goes live. So go peruse the rooms, mark your calendar, and set your alarm.
