Our Seminar Finale concert with Spectrum Brass & Students is on August 13th at 8:00pm. VIVE LA FRANCE is a program of great French masterworks; including Fanfare from La Péri by Paul Dukas, Old French Renaissance Dances by Claude Gervaise, Interlude by Louis Durey, Le Camp de Pompée from Antoine et Cléopâtre by Florent Schmitt, & Fanfares Liturgiques by Henri Tomasi.

Tomasi wrote the Fanfares Liturgiques as a part of his opera, Don Juan de Mañara. Joining us for a rare performance of the original version of Tomasi's incredible final movement is our Bay View Music Festival resident soprano, Risa Renae Harman. This will be an amazing event you won't want to miss!!

Spectrum Brass Seminar Alumni Profile: Dominic Gaietto (2015) is a versatile low brass performer who values musicianship and creativity in both performance and education. Dominic holds a B.M. degree in Music Performance from Ball State University (2015) and an M.M. in Music Performance from The University of Minnesota (2017). He currently lives and freelances in Chicago, IL and most recently toured and performed at the World Expo in Dubai with the Chicago Freedom Ensemble. Prior to moving to Chicago, Dominic toured the West Coast and Australia as the lead trombonist with the musical “In the Mood”, a r***e of the music of the big band era. He has performed professionally on alto, tenor, and bass trombone in orchestras, wind bands, brass quintets, and big bands, and has extensively studied euphonium and jazz improvisation as well as music theory and arranging.

As an educator, Dominic enjoys employing technology and a variety of visual and audio aids to best work with each individual student's needs. Dominic teaches privately and runs masterclasses and sectionals, focusing on tone production, breathing, and musicianship.

Dominic attended the Spectrum Brass Seminar in 2015 and remembers enjoying all the pop up performances around the community, and how so many people would stop by to listen or chat. He always enjoyed collaborating with his fellow students to create something fresh and engaging, and has maintained and treasured the friendships he made during the festival.

In 2018, when he wasn't sure where his life in music was headed, he got called on late notice to go on a 3 month tour with "In the Mood". There were some real heavies in the band and though he was intimidated at first, by the end of the tour his confidence was higher than it had ever been. At that moment, he knew that he wanted to continue to pursue music performance in any capacity.

Dominic’s advice to young people interested in a career in music is, “A music career can be whatever you want it to be. Don’t fall into the trap of believing that if you aren't doing just music to support yourself, you are a failure. During the pandemic I picked up a day job to support myself and I still have time to practice and gig. If you want to make music, you will find a way! Just do it on your terms.”

Spectrum Brass Seminar Alumni Profile: Alex Lenhart (2019) earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University in 2021, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with plans to graduate in 2023. Alex is currently a member of the critically acclaimed CCM Wind Symphony and has performed with other local groups including the Kentucky Symphony. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra in Franz Joseph Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto.

Alex credits his attendance at the Spectrum Brass Seminar in 2019 as the final tipping point that pushed him towards pursuing his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance at the conservatory level. The entrepreneurial classes on professional development had a lasting impact, and he still uses the resources from the classes on Audition Preparation, Brass Arranging, Freelance Professionalism, and Tone Building & Breathing. He also said, “learning from Spectrum Brass as well as my fellow student colleagues in such an intense environment was enlightening and inspiring.”

To young people interested in a career in music, Alex’s advice is, “If you’re thinking to yourself “It's too late to start now.”, it’s not. Go for it with everything you’ve got!”
