Angie Smithson Uma's Bedroom Makeover: VOL "The BED"
I met Scarlett at her yard sale. We became fast friends, and she invited me to her home (where I caught sight of this antique, 1830's bed). After an extreme amount of groveling, she agreed to sell it to me, and it has sat in our basement..WAITING, for a few years. This bed was what Uma's entire room was built around. Esmerelda was erected (in four hours, with four arguing people) she is IN her full glory once again (my Kinfolk are annoyed yet happy to be finished with her). I still need to upholster the headboard and ceiling insert, dress her up with bedding, sew a bed skirt.....and a lot of other things, but we are making progress.

Angie Smithson Today was a whirlwind. I found this sweet cupboard in Columbus, and pulled the trigger and picked it up today. Her name is Elodie, she is petite and situated in her new home (Uma's bedroom). Elodie will house Uma's many crafting supplies as she sets the world on fire with her beautiful creations....soon. The 1830's full tester bed pieces were hauled from our farm yesterday, as Uma and I lugged them upstairs. It's happening....

Angie Smithson Uma's Bedroom Makeover: VOL 5
My Dad is so smart. Every single time I work alongside him, I am fascinated and impressed. It looks simple..window trim. But if you we're here, you'd have seen the wheels turning in the mind of a genius. Finish carpenter's are some of the brightest diamonds I've ever encountered. They see the world through spatial clarity and mathematics. Craftsmen are a dying breed. Dad talked me through each, complicated cut. No mistakes. No waste. BEAUTIFUL. After he left, I spent hours caulking, filling more holes, painting. No music. No show on my computer. The quiet opened my mind and granted me growth. I learned new things today. Wallpaper gets installed tomorrow!!!!!!

Angie Smithson Lots of millwork today..gratifying but time consuming. We installed the petite ceiling trim and corner trims, just have window trims still to finish. Caulked and filled nail holes, lots of painting and touch up to do tomorrow. It's coming along nicely!

Day three of the bedroom makeover with Angie Smithson and The Kinfolk Group. We got the rest of the wainscoting panels installed today, as well as the baseboard. We started the ceiling trim (not crown. This is a more budget friendly version and much easier/faster to install), but our saw broke!! Tomorrow it's just Dad and I, we will finish the ceiling trim and install the outside/inside corners, and trim around windows. I have a lot of nail holes to fill, caulking and then touch up painting to do after that. But it's coming along nicely! These videos are just a fun way to lift the veil for you to see what goes into making changes...they just take help and time.

Today we got three walls of wainscoating installed..and started on the fourth...If the roads are drivable (so much snow today), Dad will come over and help us finish this last wall! We then will install the baseboards and crown, the inside/outside corners and window trims. I'll still need to fill the seams between panels and all nail holes/touch up paint, but it's happening! The remaining walls get wallpaper on Wednesday!

My most challenging client to date..my 13 year old daughter. He bedroom dreams began at 11 years old and mandated everything ballet/pink/black bows. I breathed and waited. Next came coastal vibes/blues, I waited. Then dark olive greens/moody, I was excited but waited. We found a wallpaper she fell in love with and I ran with it as the base to this soon to be created sanctuary. It's taken us two years to collect the objects of desire to fulfill this dream. Join us on this journey that will take us to her final destination..a room she longs to create, in...

Every single day my passion for old things (including Joe), increases. It's important to preserve and understand history, and the sheer genius of good craftsmenship. At The Kinfolk Group, we revere the trades that are disappearing with our old timers. Mixing antique pieces into our new or remodeled homes adds so much value and warmth. It's a core value within our ethos.

This apothecary cabinet was in total disrepair. Upon investigation, its glass front handles show names of items that each drawer housed, in the general store-pharmacy where it sat. The nail heads date the cabinet to between 1810-1840. She has handmade dovetailed drawers, which are painstaking and time consuming to build..like people (they just don't make em' like this anymore). Ater days with one of my local craftsmen, new life has been breathed back into her.

It's worthwhile to preserve old, broken things (me included), i remind myself each moment.

Meet Beryl, she is 8' long. Thick and lovely (i want to be like her)...

Meet the Sullivan house in Hyde Park, OH, a haven of warmth and character. She is a lovely home that brings a special sense of peace to those who enter. This marks the fifth project The Kinfolk Group Angie Smithson has had the privilege of undertaking with this family. Crafting sensory experiences within your space is an art form that can spark meaningful connection through the experiences it creates. The incorporation of patterned-grasscloth wallpaper sparks conversation as your guests touch your walls and begin asking questions... Thibaut Design offers an array of stunning wallpaper options, including the style I discovered at Nimbus 9 Interior Design showroom in Cincinnati, where collection's of wallpaper books await. I was particularly drawn to this indigo and white toned vertical stripe wallpaper, which I paired with a ceiling painted in a rich iron ore color, transforming the dining room into a vibrating coccoon. To address the need for a standing desk, I designed floating shelves in maple, to complement the wood flooring, and collaborated with a local craftsman to bring that vision to life. When it comes to adorning your home, blending old with new creates tension that piques curiosity and allows you to tell your story without speaking. I had the pleasure of curating a selection of vintage, linen-bound books, marble accents, impressionistic paintings, and lush greenery to place on these shelves, striking a balance between aesthetics and functionality. This wall became an art installation, a desk, and a conversation piece all-in-one. To add a touch of warmth to the dining table, I crafted a flower arrangement using pieces from Crate and Barrel whose botanical's boast an impressive array of faux flowers and greenery that deceive the eye. In the living room, I sought inspiration from Restoration Hardware, selecting the sleek Ligne Media Console in natural oak, the Reyna swivel chair, and the Wright Table Lamps in hammered iron, which pay homage to the timeless charm of mid-century design. The sheepskin pillow and mauve throw add a cozy touch, that invites you to curl up with a good book and a cup of steaming hot tea. As this journey unfolds, I look forward to sharing more glimpses of this extraordinary home.....
