Don’t be ashamed. We’ve all been there before—the only person in the room who didn’t know the words to “Piano Man” or the person who sat backstage telling everyone, “Good luck,” instead of “Break a leg!” At some point we all need a little guidance. Below is a non-exhaustive list of signs that you are in need of some design assistance:

1. You’re still using stock photography from 1995. The perms and primary colored f***y packs already came back in and out again… it’s probably time to upgrade.

2. You’re pulling images from Google image searches and using them for your business. Without permission. You know this is illegal, right?

3. You’re doing the previous warning sign, and then printing them. Unless pixels are your thing.

4. You’re using Comic Sans, Papyrus, Brush or Courier fonts. If you don’t know why this is an issue, please call us.

5. Your logo file was built in Microsoft Word. (Extra points if you did this with one of the fonts listed above).

6. Your logo redesign is a duplication of someone else’s logo, but with your company name. Sure it’s cheap, but it’s confusing, technically illegal, and not so nice to the other guy.

7. You’re really feeling the urge to squeeze that landscape photo into a portrait layout. Crop, my friend. Crop.

8. You’re trying to figure out how to program a midi sound file to play in the background of your website.
