The Delta Queen Steamboat
10/10/2025
--From Jim Delaney, October, 2025
In recent weeks I’ve re-watched my 1988 interview with Capt. Fred Way Jr. and thought about my collaboration with Frank Mayfield in creating The Unsinkable Delta Queen video. Their reflections about the Delta Queen and riverboats in America are in the video below. While many steamboats have been scrapped over the years, The Delta Queen rests idly in Louisiana with little hope of operating again. That’s why I declare that--after dozens of near-death experiences since the 1920s--this time the obituary for the Delta Queen is no longer premature.
The Belle of Louisville is a steamboat that brings back fond memories at Sentimental Productions. As producers of The Unsinkable Delta Queen at the time of the first Tall Stacks in 1988, we told the story of the first Great Steamboat Race between the Belle and the Queen. And we subsequently learned how the stories of these two great riverboats were intertwined in many ways.

A new feature of our Sentimental Digital Network contains tips and clips for each season which provide subjects and material for future calendars that are not otherwise available.
To that end, we invite you to check out our 10 tips for early Spring that provide both long and short video elements to assist in your planning process.
Right now, “Tips” includes features on the founding of Arbor Day, a Trivia program on advertising and a segment on the Indiana basketball team that inspired the movie Hoosiers.
By way of introduction, we are providing one clip FREE. It’s a segment on Vintage Baseball telling the story of the days when batters were called "strikers" and the fielders didn’t wear gloves. You can connect to it and play it here:
As March Madness reigns, it's a perfect time to visit the home of the Milan '54 Museum dedicated to the team that inspired "Hoosiers." Yes, there are photos of Gene Hackman there but we tell the story of the actual team on our Sentimental Digital Network. www.sdnvideo.com
