Sunstone was honored to be part of a documentary highlighting Cincinnati Animal Care and the people who make a difference in the lives of animals in need. A film crew spent a week inside the shelter capturing what really happens behind the scenes and the community that helps make it all possible.

Some of our Sunstone residents and staff had the opportunity to share how fostering dogs has become such a meaningful part of our recovery community. ❤️ These dogs are given a safe place to land while waiting for their forever homes, and in return, they bring companionship, purpose, unconditional love, and healing to the people caring for them.

At Sunstone, we believe in second chances for people and animals alike. 🐶❤️

Last week Sunstone Life Recovery Housing celebrated 4 years of operation! 💙🧡

Over the past four years, we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside 400+ individuals as they worked toward recovery, stability, and independence.

We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come—and even more excited for the lives still to be changed.

💜 Overdose Awareness Day 💜

Today, as a recovery house, we remember the lives lost to overdose and stand beside those who are still fighting for their recovery.

We see every day that recovery is possible. We see courage, growth, second chances, and lives being rebuilt.

To those we’ve lost, you are remembered. To those still struggling, you are not alone. To those in recovery, keep going. 💜

We are thankful for Department of Behavioral Health and the State of Ohio for making the necessary changes to bring quality recovery housing to our state and stop the significant amount of fraud going on in our communities.

Today I signed an executive order that brings the authority to certify recovery housing under the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. The recovery housing industry has seen significant growth over the last four years making oversight and regulation very difficult. Today we make sure these houses are operating free from potential fraud, waste, and abuse, and providing quality, safe living conditions for those who are on their recovery journey. I would like to thank Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson and the Ohio Legislature for their support, including Justin Pizzulli, State Rep, State Representative Brian Lorenz, and State Senator Terry Johnson, who have been diligently working on this issue.

🚀 Introducing LAUNCH at Sunstone Life Recovery Housing! 🚀

We are excited to announce the launch of a new Young Adult Recovery Program, LAUNCH, designed specifically for young adults ages 18-24 who are ready to break the cycle of addiction, build stability, and create a successful future.

Thanks to grant funding through the State of Ohio, eligible participants can receive:

🏠 90 days of housing at no cost in a safe, comfortable apartment in a great neighborhood
✅ All utilities included, plus Wi-Fi
🚗 Transportation to appointments, job interviews, court dates, and other important commitments
💼 A 10-week Life Skills & Employment Cohort to build job readiness, create a resume, and gain valuable life skills
🤝 Free case management and support from Sunstone staff, Lighthouse Youth, and the outpatient treatment provider of their choice
💰 Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive $1,000 to help secure their own housing or pursue educational advancement

Recovery is about more than sobriety—it's about creating opportunities, building confidence, and developing the tools needed for long-term success. LAUNCH is designed to give young adults the support and resources they need to build a strong foundation for their future.

✨ Now Open: 4 New Level 1 Apartments at Sunstone ✨

We’re excited to share that we’ve officially opened four new Level 1 apartments on our campus! 🎉

Our Level 1 housing is designed for individuals who are ready for greater independence in their recovery journey. To qualify, residents must have a minimum of 6 months of sobriety and be actively employed. With this step forward comes less oversight and a more peer-run environment, allowing residents to practice autonomy while remaining rooted in a supportive, substance-free community.

By offering Level 1 housing on-site, residents can step down from more structured support without losing the stability, relationships, and recovery-focused environment that helped them get here. This intentional transition reduces housing insecurity, supports long-term recovery, and helps residents continue building meaningful, independent lives.

This expansion reflects our commitment to seamless transitions, resident empowerment, and sustainable recovery. We’re proud to continue growing in ways that truly help people have long term success!

Recovery doesn’t happen in one leap—it happens in stages.
At Sunstone, offering both Level 2 and Level 1 recovery housing on the same campus creates a seamless path forward. Residents can stabilize, build recovery capital, and step down into greater independence without losing their support system.

Supporting Seamless Transitions. Recovery housing in greater Cincinnati is an important topic for many. We require more quality recovery homes for people living with substance use disorder (SUD).

🐶 Meet Our Newest Foster: Trey! 🐶
Please help us welcome Trey, the newest foster pup to join the Sunstone family! He has already started making himself right at home and bringing lots of joy (and wiggles!) with him

Here’s a little about Trey:
✨ Around 3 yrs old & 35-40lbs
✨ Listens well and truly wants to please his humans
✨ Full of happy wiggles and little hops
✨ Walks well on a leash
✨ Potty trained
✨ Plays easily with kids
✨ Loves all people
✨ will sit and spin for a treat!

Trey would love to be in a somewhat active home but he is also good with relaxing and is a total love bug! 😍

🌟 Johnny’s Story: Recovery, Opportunity, and Hope in Motion 🌟

Johnny came to Sunstone after struggling with alcohol use disorder. He had just entered treatment and needed a structured, safe place to stay while rebuilding his life. At the time, he was down on his luck—his car had recently been repossessed, and stability felt out of reach.

After completing the Life Learning Center and gaining some footing, Johnny found employment at Sam’s Club. While it wasn’t his dream job, he showed up, stayed committed, and kept pushing forward while searching for new opportunities.

Around that same time, Sunstone launched our transportation program, Hope On Wheels. Johnny shared that he had prior driving experience with Amazon and was interested in being involved. He became our very first Hope On Wheels driver and quickly proved himself—reliably transporting residents and community members to appointments and services.

Because of Hope On Wheels and the partnerships it created, Johnny was later offered a position with United Carrier, a medical supplies company. This opportunity provided full-time hours and higher pay, marking a huge step forward in his journey.

Today, Johnny is thriving. He is dependable, hardworking, and living a happier, more stable life. We are incredibly proud of him and deeply grateful for the partners and opportunities that help make stories like Johnny’s possible.

We’re excited to continue watching Johnny’s progress as he rebuilds his life—one mile at a time. 💛🚐
