One of the biggest themes in my memoir is songwriting and relationships — the connections that shaped me and inspired the music I wrote in my early adulthood. In this clip, I share what it was like as a younger man to write songs in that context.
It’s coming! My debut memoir, What Would Philip Roth Do? — about my life and my imagined conversations with my favorite writer, Philip Roth. If you’ve ever read him and thought, “Wow, that’s a lot,” but still wanted more, you’ll love my story — a mix of Hebrew grammar, bluegrass, and much more.
Part of my memoir dives into the songwriting and the relationships that sparked those songs. On my new EP Two Songs, I’ve included a piano version of one of them — “Joey.” Originally written in a burst of inspiration, it now finds its place not just in music, but in the story of my life.
