Sharing a beautiful tribute/editorial published in
Letters to The Republican on 3/30/26.
A veterinarian brought kindness
In our vastly changed world, divided by controversy, violence and hate, I feel compelled to relate an experience I just had that involved love, caring and peace. My 15-year-old dog, Annie, had been rapidly declining in her health, walking with great difficulty, not eating and obviously suffering in her own quiet way.
I knew that if I truly loved her, it was time to let her go. My vet recommended a veterinary service called Paws Finding Peace that comes to your home to provide a place for your final goodbye.
Dr. Calvin Carrington came to my home as scheduled and proved to be the closest thing to a saint I have ever met.
He was warm, sensitive, caring and patient, treating Annie like you would treat a beloved relative, which she was. Her passing was peaceful and beautiful, thanks to his empathy for both patient and owner. I wish to commend him and Paws Finding Peace as an example of the kindness we all need so much today.
