Shout-out to the Forebay Aquatic Center for storing our giant salmon puppet for us! The giant salmon was created by a group of dedicated BEC volunteers for our Endangered Species Fair a few years back and continues to be a staple of the puppet parade each year. The salmon is near and dear to many members of the community, as it represents "The Last, Best Run of Wild Chinook Salmon in California," which we are so lucky to be home to here in Butte County.

For those of you who do not know, we encourage you to learn more about this critical species by doing research or at local Salmon Tours that are facilitated in our local waterways, hosted by the Forebay Aquatic Center and DWR. Message us if you want more details!

💧The Bidwell Park and Chico Creeks Cleanup is tomorrow - you can still sign-up to volunteer!

⭐Show up at Ho**er Oak Park, 1928 Manzanita Ave, to sign liability waivers, receive cleanup supplies, location (if you would like us to assign you one) and a safety briefing.

☕Forest Ranch Roasters will be on site, brewing fresh coffee for our volunteers. Espresso will be available to purchase, 20% of proceeds will be donated to BEC. 💚

🍽There will be a volunteer lunch with sandwiches, chips from Lundberg Family Farms and drinks. There will also be an opportunity to enter into a raffle to win free tickets to the Turtle Bay Aquarium or 2 entrees at Chipotle! 🎟

The 39th Annual Bidwell Park & Chico Creeks Cleanup is almost here!

We’re getting ready for a BIG day of cleaning up our local creeks, parks and riparian habitats, and we couldn’t do it without the incredible businesses and organizations helping make this event possible! 💚

👕 Event T-Shirts: Printed locally by Cali Screen Printing. There will only be 250 available, so be sure to arrive early if you want a shirt.

☕ Coffee & Espresso: Forest Ranch Coffee Roasters will be fueling our volunteers with coffee and espresso. They are a local sustainable coffee roasting company. 20% of proceeds will be donated to BEC!

🚛 Cleanup Hauling: We’re partnering with Murdock's Moving & Storage and CARD to haul large and bulky items from cleanup locations to our trash drop-off sites. Volunteers will be given an information sheet at check-in with information about our dispatch team.

🥪 Volunteer Lunch: After the cleanup, join us at Ho**er Oak Park at 12 PM for a volunteer lunch celebration!

🎟️ Raffle: Stick around for a chance to win Turtle Bay Aquarium tickets or free Chipotle entrées! Raffle tickets will be donation-based, with proceeds supporting BEC’s work to protect and restore our local environment.

As we are gearing up for Saturday, we wanted to share some important information for our volunteers for the upcoming Bidwell Park and Chico Creeks Cleanup on September 19th from 9-12pm.

Check-in is at Ho**er Oak Park at 8:30am. *Chico State and Hot Spot volunteers will receive separate check-in instructions via email.*

Before you arrive:
🥾 Wear closed-toe shoes & long pants
💧 Bring a reusable water bottle
☀️ Bring sun protection
🧤 Cleanup supplies will be provided

👕 Want a commemorative T-shirt? We have only 250 shirts, available first-come, first-served, so arrive early! Stickers will also be available.

🍽️ Volunteer Celebration Lunch: Join us at Ho**er Oak Park from 12 - 1 PM for free food, music, and a celebration of our amazing volunteers! There will also be a raffle!

BEC is partnering with the City of Chico to target a specific cleanup location during our Bidwell Park and Chico Creeks Cleanup. This location is referred to as the "hot spot."

We are currently in need of 20-25 volunteers who are down to get dirty and really make a difference in Big Chico Creek. This location is perfect for large groups, fraternities etc.

The hot spot is located underneath the Nord bridge at highway 32 next to Hunt and Sons.

The benefit to signing up for the hot spot location is: You are guaranteed a commemorative event t-shirt and you get to skip the check in process at Ho**er Oak Park by going straight to the hot spot in the morning!
