We need your input!
We often hear from members and people in the community that they want to hear from our elected officials about relevant local issues, especially in cases where issues cut across ward boundaries (city budgeting, policing, etc.). To see how widespread this is, we want your input - let us know if you would like South Loop Neighbors to host a community forum (tentatively in January) with our 4 alders and any other relevant officials. Also let us know any topics you would like addressed!

Second Presbyterian Church Unveils Newly Restored Jeweled Tiffany Window:
On September 19th, Second Presbyterian Church (1936 S. Michigan Ave.) held a celebration to reveal their newest, fully restored 134-year-old jeweled Tiffany window. This brings the total number of restored Tiffany stained-glass windows to four with eight still awaiting restoration. Thank you to Friends of Historic Second Church and Marshall Field V for driving this project forward.
This window was restored by Tom Venturella as part of a 14-month effort to revive the magnificent stained-glass structure. At 16 feet high and 8 1/2 feet wide, the window was originally designed by the firm of Louis Comfort Tiffany, and was donated to Second Presbyterian by the family of department store founder Marshall Field in 1927. To see the windows, tour the historic church, or take in a service, visit www.secondpreschicago.org.

On September 29th, Aldermen Dowell (3rd), Robinson (4th), Conway (34th), and Lee (11th) served as the panel for the Near South Alder Forum, answering questions about major South Loop issues.
A major topic of discussion was the new Chicago Fire stadium and the potential new White Sox stadium, along with the effects of each on South Loop and neighboring communities. Last year, South Loop Neighbors conducted a survey demonstrating that traffic/congestion and transit access were the two largest concerns of South Loop residents regarding the Fire stadium plan. Alderman Dowell acknowledged traffic is a major concern that needs addressing but deferred the specifics to a future meeting with traffic planners and transit experts to offer proper solutions. A follow up question asked about SLN's Central Connector proposal as a solution to traffic. This was met with unanimous support for formal study of the idea, with Dowell stating it is a great idea and Alderman Robinson showing appreciation for community driven efforts to solve problems facing our community.
South Loop Neighbors is excited to publish a new transit map-themed version of the well-received plan. This version uses CTA visual cues to further demonstrate the connectivity and route of the traffic-separated bus rapid transit line.
