On behalf of Adapt, I would like to express our extreme sadness and anger over the abuse at Profiles Theatre, brought to light by Aimee Levitt and Christopher Piatt in the comprehensive piece they wrote for Reader as well as by the courage of the women who came forward with their testimonies of abuse. Art requires vulnerability, and there is no place in theatre for those who would take advantage of that vulnerability for their own nefarious purposes.
Our hearts are aching for those who have suffered in silence over the last twenty years, but we are heartened by the response this community has already had in the last 24 hours. The message is clear: we won’t stand for this. Adapt Theatre is adopting the Code of Conduct, and we want to reaffirm our commitment to treating everyone with whom we work with respect and dignity. We must all be a part of the change coming to our community, and we must all look out for one another’s safety. The Chicago theatre community is calling out the abuse and the abusers, and we at Adapt stand with you all to say .
