Our Story
Disability Defenders is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2016 by a group of high schoolers looking to make a difference. Their main goal: to spread awareness and bring acceptance to those who differ developmentally.
Disability Defenders hosts an annual Ability Fest (formally known as disABILITY Day) at Marist High School. This event is designed in mind to accommodate those who differ developmentally, while also bringing the Southside Chicago community together. Ability Fest is a fundraiser event that helps create financial stability for those within the disabled community. All proceeds raised go directly to individuals within the facilities we partner with (i.e Park Lawn Charity, Sertoma Centre, Elim Christian Services, Blue Cap, and Garden Center Servies). The event itself includes live music, food, raffle baskets, and a vendor fair!
We know how strong community support can be. With your help, we can create a more accepting and loving world by extending a helping hand to all.
