I will be posting a video on this final topic of divorce and remarriage very soon! There is so much to unpack here. But this poster sums it up! How can we give grace to others and chastise the divorcee?

So a person who divorces or remarries can't be covered by the same grace that covers liars, thieves, slanderers, adulterers and everyone else? Make it make sense.

The selective application of grace has always been telling.

Because grace — by every theological definition available — is not a tiered system. Not a resource distributed based on the category of the sin or the social acceptability of the struggle. Not something extended generously to the sins that are easy to hide and withheld pointedly from the ones that become visible in a woman's last name or her ringless finger or the new man sitting beside her on Sunday.

Grace is grace.

Or it isn't grace at all.

And yet.

The liar sits comfortably in the congregation.

The thief takes communion.

The adulterer serves on the board — especially if he stayed in the marriage afterward and the wife forgave him publicly enough.

The slanderer leads the prayer group.

And the divorced woman.

The one who left something that was destroying her. Who made the impossible decision after exhausting every other option. Who carried the weight of a failing marriage longer than anyone outside it will ever fully understand and finally arrived at the only door left open.

She gets the looks.

The whispered questions about what she did wrong.

The subtle repositioning of her in the community's social architecture.

The grace that apparently has terms and conditions applied to her specific situation that weren't in the original offer.

The remarried woman is somehow even further outside the circle.

Having had the audacity to believe that her life wasn't over. That love was still possible. That God's story for her included more than permanent loneliness as penance for a marriage that failed.

Grace covers everything.

That was always the point.

Either it does.

Or the people deciding who qualifies should look more carefully at their own list.

Before they look at hers.

Fire is good but it cannot keep burning without the oil…

The Gospel calls us to Christ…not conformity.
The Jesus I know would rather see someone in rags at His feet than in garments of gold, convinced they earned the right to be there.

Let that sink in.

Pain has a way of making sure we remember. Today, we honor those we lost, remember the heroes, and hold onto the lessons that came from one of the darkest days in our history. Because time can fade a memory, but we have a choice about whether it fades the lesson.

One year later, I’m reminded that while we’re still here, we still have work to do. Jesus didn’t call us to sit quietly on the sidelines. He called us to go, to make disciples, and to boldly share the Gospel. Charlie’s legacy inspired many of us to find our voice and stop being afraid to use it.

When we hear the word abandonment, we usually picture someone walking away. But what if abandonment goes deeper than simply leaving the house?

If marriage is a covenant, what does it actually mean to forsake that covenant? Scripture gives us a much deeper picture—and understanding it changes the way we think about abandonment, divorce, and reconciliation.

What happens when we take one biblical truth and turn it into an absolute rule? Abuse is complicated, and so is the question of divorce. We have to be willing to look at the whole counsel of Scripture, not just one verse or one interpretation.

What if the problem isn’t that someone quoted the Bible, but that they used the Bible to say something the Bible never actually said?

Confidence doesn’t make an interpretation correct. A Bible verse doesn’t automatically make an argument biblical.

We need to be willing to ask questions, examine context, and test what we’re being taught.

I Almost Quit. But I’m Fighting Instead.

This past month brought illness, family turmoil, old wounds, and moments when I questioned my faith and my calling. Last night, I finally stopped trying to carry it all myself and cried out to Jesus.

“Lord, I don’t have this. But You do. Take over.”

And I was reminded: surrender isn’t weakness. Sometimes surrender is how we get back in the fight.

If you’re in your own storm, let this remind you: opposition is not abandonment. If all you can pray is, “Jesus, help me,” pray it.

I’m not quitting. I’m not cowering. I’m fighting from a place of surrender.

The Lord of Hosts is still Lord.

And I’m still here.
