Doctors do not have to stay in corporate or academic jobs that don’t value our time or labor. Resigning from a job that didn’t care if I contracted tetanus at work opened up a world of possibilities that I would have never otherwise known was possible. 💫

When I wanted to chat about physician recruiters, I knew I had to sit down with .dreamjob and hear her thoughts on the creating the ideal physician-recruiter partnership. 🤝

Are Physician Contracts Negotiable? 🤔📝

I had a great conversation with about physician negotiation power. My takeaways:

💡Give yourself enough time. You’ll accept a bad offer when you’re rushed and desperate.
💡Evaluate multiple offers across different cities and states.
💡Don’t be afraid to walk away from a bad deal. Don’t settle. You have the power.

✅ Reasons to do a fellowship:

💡You are extremely passionate about the specialty, the patients, the medicine, and the science behind it.

❌ Reasons not to do a fellowship.

💡The academic pressure to be “more than a generalist”
💡Believing that a better quality of life is guaranteed as a specialist
💡Thinking that outpatient clinic or inpatient hospitalist jobs are your only non-fellowship options

Non-fellowship career options include, but are not limited to: part-time locums or per-diem, medical writing, expert witness, tech & pharma consulting, aesthetics, medical device & biodesign, academic consulting, media education, and anything else you want to do with this short and precious life.
