Over 100 UFISU members showed up as a sea of green at yesterday’s Board of Trustees meeting. This is the kind of action we need to move the needle on our contract negotiations. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and show the admin we mean business.

After lining up and chanting in the hall (see video), we filed into Old Main for the meeting. We had so many folks attend that they had to quickly set up an impromptu overfill room with a livestream. Members Carrie Anna Courtad and Jerritt Williams gave public comment calling for ISU to work with us to make our campus a better place for all and urging the BoT and Admin to bring economic counters to the table at our next session. Jerritt also gave the BoT a printed copy of our Sally-Darity petition (73 pages!).

With three speakers left, one of whom was ISUEA President Sarah Hall, the BoT opted not to extend the time for public comment despite urging from the audience. As they moved into their regular business, we stood up and left, chanting in solidarity with our union siblings who are also in lengthy and difficult contract negotiations.

This action was successful because y’all showed up and brought the energy. The BoT and President Tarhule had no choice but to listen and pay attention to us. When we fight, we win. We WILL get a fair contract.

Learn about our next steps at the General Members Meeting on October 17 at 5:30pm (with a Zoom follow up on October 18 at 3pm: https://docs.google.com/forms/u/0/d/1WQpgtV7lx7Pc44BEqTA97KUyBoY7z6rYSa5Vjad1jmY/viewform?edit_requested=true
