Wrapped up a project that’s been too long on the bench. This is part two of the uniform shadow box from a previous post.

Finally finished this amazing project! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to memorialize CW2 Michael Zehel and his highly decorated career.

This will get glass once it reaches its destination. It cuts the shipping weight by a few pounds and eliminates the worry of broken glass in shipping.

Here we have a shadow box made from cherry and framed in highly figured walnut. The background is shiplap and painted red in honor of Chief Zehel’s field artillery branch and shadow burst to focus attention to the uniform. The flag is his funeral flag which adorned his casket and folded with honor and presented to his family. Inset into the flag’s frame are 5 of the spent cartridges collected after his final salute. Finally, his dog tags rest comfortably over the flag he served.

Part 1 is complete. Part 2 is making a display case for the challenge coins he’d collected over the course of his career.

Rest In Peace, paratrooper…

Here’s a project I’ve been working on for the past couple weeks. It is a memorial uniform shadow box. As a personal policy, I don’t post my memorial work but in this case I was specifically asked to by the client.

This project is almost complete. It just needs the uniform mounted. There is also a part 2 that I haven’t started on. That is a coin display for the challenge coins that he collected over his career.

Here we have a box constructed from rough cut cherry, and framed with highly figured walnut. The background is store bought shiplap painted dark red and faded darker to the outsides to symbolize the mourning of a fallen artilleryman. The flag frame has 5 brass casings from the final salute at the burial. The flag is the memorial flag which draped the casket and presented to the family as a token of gratitude for services rendered on behalf of a grateful nation.

Stay tuned for the final pictures once the uniform is mounted. This will be shipped from Virginia to Washington so we elected to procure the glass at the destination to reduce shipping weight and eliminate the chance that it will break in transit.

This will get a construction video once everything is done.

Here’s the biggest project I’ve ever shipped. This is a pedestal for a statue that’s a tapering pentagon. Very satisfying and challenging!
