Whiting Library
An inviting and unique public library inspiring lifelong learning by offering a variety of services
Whiting Library will be holding a book sale this Saturday and Sunday in celebration of Scarecrow Weekend. Stop by to shop books, look at the art of Art Off the Wall, and of course view our scarecrow tribute to Dolly Parton (thanks to Carrie, our youth librarian!). Stop by from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM either day to pick up some books for cheap and stop by anytime to pay ode to Dolly.
We are also seeking donations for this book sale, from books of any genre to DVDs and records. If you do donate, please make sure all items are in good condition, without mold or mustiness and ideally no spotting on the tops! Donations can be brought to the circulation desk, or call ahead for us to meet you at your car.

Language learners of all ages, please join us for a fascinating seminar on gaining fluency in a foreign language on Thursday, October 8th from 4:30 PM to 5:40 PM in the Community Room of the Whiting Library.
Learning a new language can be challenging, but if you understand the natural principles of language learning, you can more easily succeed! This free seminar is offered by the Whiting Library in cooperation with Ben Clarke, teacher of French at Green Mountain Union High School. We will use French as an example of how to more naturally acquire fluent language skills. This experience is perfect for home schooling families or anyone who wants to more successfully learn a new language.

You've still got time to stop by the Fall Festival book sale! We'll wind down around 4pm.
You can find us at the library, located at 117 Main St, in easy walking distance from the Chester Green. We'll be open for a couple more hours, so come on by!
This year, we are only holding the sale on Saturday, but if you miss us today, the book sale room is always open when the library is open. Stop by any time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays 10-6, on Thursdays 1-7, and Saturdays 10-2. Look forward to seeing you!

Virtual Author Talks this month:
You've got options this September with four excellent authors. Choose between talks on America's democracy past and present, a Pulitzer-winner's new sci-fi epic, a facilitator guru's latest guide on useful conflict, and a GRAMMY-winning musician's new picture book told in English and Spanish.
Watch award-winning historian David O. Stewart (Impeached and The Summer of 1787) speak on the American founders' vision for democracy and how we can stay aligned with their intent.
Don't miss Pulitzer Prize-winning author Daniel Kraus (Whalefall and Angel Down) as he delves into his new book The Sixth Nik, a science fiction epic.
Master facilitator and strategic advisor Priya Parker (The Art of Gathering) will speak on her new book The Art of Fighting, in which she posits that conflict is what drives us and shouldn't be feared.
Lastly, have the whole family watch Lucky Diaz, the GRAMMY award-winning musician and author, give two talks on his newest picture book, The Paletero Man, first in English then in Spanish.
You can also look forward to next month’s talks with a dystopian icon, a Smithsonian curator, and a science writer.
Click the button below to register for upcoming events, send in questions for the authors, and check out the extensive archive of best-selling authors like Kate Quinn (The Astral Library), Matt Dinniman (Dungeon Crawler Carl), and Lucy Foley (The Midnight Feast).
