We're opening the doors of the Field Station for the Vermont Crafts Council's Fall Open Studio Weekend. My photography will be up in the studio: landscapes and woods from these hills, mounted by hand and custom framed. Plus a little something extra...
In Chester alone you can visit Linda Diak Quilts / DyakCraft, Wisdom River Designs, and Cleopatra Redbird. We all work from the same source, inspired by our natural surroundings.
Beyond us, studios are open across Vermont all weekend. Join us, and discover the artists working in this beautiful state.
Come on by. October 3 & 4, 10 to 5. Free and self-guided.

I hope to see you, friends!
I’ve got a few passions. You might already know how important science, nature, art, and (of course) travel with my husband are to me...
But, there is also food.
I am fully food obsessed.
Jean-Talon Market is one of my favorite stops in Montreal, and this time of year it is heaven. Late-season vegetables stacked in every color, buckets of flowers, cheese counters I could stand at for an hour (cheese obsessed is its own category), one over-caffeinated husband (beautiful coffee everywhere- one of his obsessions), and a bookstore devoted entirely to cookbooks.
The ultimate stop.
What a morning…

I've been busy, friends.
New on the walls, and available online...
Fieldwork's online gallery mixes contemporary work by New England artists with antique natural history prints. The pairing is the point. The same close attention to the natural world, a century or more apart.
Artist Jason Brockert knows what light does in the woods. Most of us walk past that moment. Jason captures the powerful light, and the depth, of New England landscapes. He is one of the contemporary artists we are lucky to collaborate with at Fieldwork. His originals are available now at fieldworkvermont.com.
And, as you can see, we house the work that we offer online, and our newly refreshed studio space is filling up. Fresh paint, new light, and our signature mix of contemporary work and antique natural history prints, like these hand-colored butterfly plates from the 1800s.
One more thing 🌼 we have an invitation for you... details in the Field Notes Blog.

The trees are heavy with fruit this year. All over Vermont, apples are ripening on hillsides and peaches are being harvested. Our two apple trees are exploding. And our tiny peach tree made a beautiful effort with lots of mini-peaches.
In the spirit of the season, I framed two French horticultural plates from the Revue Horticole, 1868. An apple and a peach, in Vermont-made hardwood frames.
Now available in our little corner at Collected, Ltd. on the Chester green.

I almost walked by this flower. I took a closer look, and to me, it looked like the flower was posing, just waiting to be photographed in the late summer sunshine.

Butterfly season in the garden inspires butterfly season in the studio.
Four hand-colored Victorian plates from F. O. Morris's A History of British Butterflies, circa 1893, framed and available now at Fieldwork.
And oh my, this series. A monarch, which had only just crossed the Atlantic into British entomology, alongside a Silver-washed Fritillary, a Niobe Fritillary, and a Scarce Swallowtail.
Custom framed with archival materials and UV protective glass.
Heart melt.

Mergansers ✨ and loons… and that was just the beginning.
(I kept the sound on as evidence that my husband and I share the same level of wildlife enthusiasm 🤪)
All of this, and we hadn’t even opened the front door of the cabin yet 💕
We’ve been on Lake Memphremagog for less than a day, and it already feels like a year’s worth of wildlife watching.
Since the welcoming committee, we’ve seen cormorants, a great blue heron, an osprey (dove right in front of us, grabbed a fish, kept on going), a river otter just chilling offshore (that one especially blew my mind), sandpipers, and of course many lovely loons. All of it steps from the porch.
Goodness gracious, Mother Nature was generous. A perfect birthday gift 💕
Yup. This lady just celebrated 54 years. Gulp.
But also: HECK YEAH I DID ✨

Summer days with good friends 💕
Late summer is a strange time for me. It is my favorite time of year, but also time to gear up for the nuttiness of the semester ahead. I'm balancing the "get back to work" days with good moments with friends and family.
Very, very grateful for this crew. So much support from these wonderful people over the years... lovely friends who are part of the Fischer Arts-to-Fieldwork story (link below if you haven't seen it).

Enjoy the beauty of August, and the loved ones around you, friends.

New to the Archive, and I'm a little smitten. 🌱
An original chromolithograph of Australian fauna, circa 1895. Kangaroos, a platypus mid-paddle, a cockatoo with a snack, and yes, that's a thylacine, depicted at a time they still walked the earth.
Built color by color, one printing at a time.
Custom framed with archival matting and UV glass.

There's a new post up on Field Notes... this one about late summer, and about the community that made this place home.
And some nature stories, of course.
This monarch made my heart so happy - spotted on a Mexican sunflower in a friend's garden. Real butterfly, real flower, real human standing very (very) still with a camera.
