ART SHOW: Join us for the 2nd Annual Healing Through Art on Saturday, October 10th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital, Entrance B.
This meaningful event highlights art's healing power and gives those affected by violence a space to share their stories through creativity and expression.
Guests can view survivor-created artwork, hear from keynote speakers, connect with community resources, enjoy refreshments, and purchase select artwork. A portion of the proceeds will support local organizations.
Spend the afternoon with us as we bring our community together to promote awareness, connection, and healing through art.

On October 16, head to the Bessie Smith Cultural Center for an evening of music, thoughtful conversation, culture, and community, featuring Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter, and musician Avery Johnson in conversation with E. Foster Williams.

This special night will also feature music from DJ Mixx, food from Byrd Brasi BBQ, a cash bar, and a special pop-up from MFA (Music, Fashion, and Arts). Come hear all about Avery's time in the music industry, working with acts such as India Arie, Usher, Outkast, and Bone Crusher!

🚨 Opportunity for Sculptors! 🚨

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for the design, fabrication, and installation of a public sculpture on the UAB campus. UAB is an internationally renowned research university and academic medical center known for its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to education. Located in the Southside neighborhood of downtown Birmingham, Alabama, the campus occupies more than 100 blocks containing a mix of academic, commercial, and residential spaces.
The commissioned sculpture will be located outside of the Hill Student Center. A high-traffic campus area, the student center serves 20,000+ students as a communal meeting
place offering student services, meals, books, and activities. Artists may see the RFQ for more information, including the guidelines, timeline, and selection process. Selected finalists will be given a $2,000 honorarium to develop a site-specific proposal, including a maquette.

✨$150,000 project budget

⏰Applications are open from September 27, 2026 – October 22, 2026.

🛠️Installation is expected in July – August 2027.
