How the Charlotte Symphony Commemorated 9/11 Through Mozart’s Requiem | WDAV 89.9 What’s the right way to honor the nearly 3,000 people who died as a result of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001? To weep afresh? To grieve quietly? To be lost in somber thoughts? To reflect, 25 years later, on our own mortality?

Some evenings remain with us long after the final note.

Yesterday, I had the profound honor of conducting Mozart’s Requiem as our community gathered to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11.

It was an honor to share this meaningful occasion with Charlotte Mayor Rob Harrington and Kyndra Frazier, Vice President of the Mecklenburg Metropolitan Interfaith Network (MeckMIN), who joined us to open the commemorations.

Onstage, the Charlotte Symphony, Opera Carolina, and the Charlotte Master Chorale came together not simply to perform, but to remember, to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of those who answered the call on September 11, 2001.

Conducting Mozart’s Requiem on this occasion was a deeply moving experience for me. Looking out at the hall and seeing so many people stirred by the music reminded me why we do what we do. There are moments when words are not enough, and music becomes our shared language of remembrance, compassion, and hope.

My sincere gratitude goes to every artist, musician, chorister, colleague, and member of our community who made this evening possible.

🇮🇹 A HISTORIC FIRST FOR CHARLOTTE! 🇺🇸

The 3rd Italian Business Networking Conference, organized by Biesse, brought together in Charlotte, for the first time, so many Italian companies and leaders from across the Carolinas.

Opera Carolina’s Artistic Director, Claudio Ferri, welcomed the participating companies and had the honor of introducing the musical program, bringing Opera Carolina’s voice to this extraordinary celebration of Italian excellence. Fan Yang then captivated the audience with a beautiful Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro.”
