To Trend or Not To Trend: Kitchen Backsplashes

Trends come and go – and with respect to kitchen design, there are a lot of trends you can choose to follow or to ignore. Some kitchen trends, such as a massive island or all white cabinets, have been popular for a while and will likely continue to be so. If you want to be trendy, though, on a smaller scale, and allow room for change if you keep the larger choices in place long-term, your kitchen backsplash might just be the way to stay on or ahead of the trendy curve.

Tomorrow, 12/21, we will be delivering our donations to the center for Women Giving Back in Sterling, VA. We will leave by 3PM and be accepting donations up to that point. Any size women's or children's coats or winter wear seems to be the greatest need, at this time. There is a box up front in our Design Center, or you can message us to arrange pick up. MOSS was proud to once again support Wreaths across America and its mission to "...Remember, Honor and Teach...carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad." National Wreaths Across America day was this past Saturday, December 17. MOSS sponsored wreaths in honor and remembrance of our employees who have family members who served our country and are laid to rest at Arlington and other cemeteries. Thank you to all who serve and who have served.

We are jingling all the way, this evening! Santa of The Panhandle has flown all the way in to spread Christmas cheer, capture some great memories with our visitors, and pass out a few treats! We are so happy we can share our Design Center with the community in such special way!

With an outdated design that lacked storage and modern amenities, this Sterling primary bathroom was in need of a refresh - an elegant new freestanding tub, beautiful blue tile, a rain shower system and vanities with ample storage has truly transformed the space.

With soothing neutrals and blues combined with abundant natural light, this Sterling bathroom conveys a sense of relaxation and calm.

What an incredible transformation for this Herndon bathroom! The original space was small and cramped - in order to create the bathroom our customers envisioned, we took space from the adjoining hallway and downsized the closet. The result is a spacious, spa-like primary bathroom that's roomy, calming, and beautiful.

From a 2016 article in The New Yorker, hygge is described as a "Danish term defined as a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.” As soon as we walked into this remodeled primary bathroom in Herndon, the word "hygge" instantly came to mind. Stunning Haymarket Basement Remodel Showcases Welcoming Wet Bar and Cozy Fireplace

These customers came to MOSS knowing they wanted to finish their basement so that it could function in multiple ways and entertain family and friends of all ages. The square footage was enough that our design team created a variety of seating areas, including a high-top dining table area, a corner sitting area, a large couch space in front of the television and fireplace, and plenty of seating around the wet bar. The focal points of this basement remodel are both the wet bar and fireplace area, which feature natural marble wall tile on the backsplash and surrounding wall, respectively. Both areas also showcase storage areas that are backlit for displaying glassware and décor. In addition to the spots for entertainment and being entertained, the basement is roomy enough for a children’s area and an air hockey table. With plenty of overhead light to add to the natural light from the doorways leading to the outdoor patio, the basement is now a complete space perfect for our homeowners.

Holiday Homes Tour of Herndon

It is and we have exciting news! This weekend, December 3, we are proud to be at the Holiday Homes Tour of Herndon as it returns from a brief hiatus!! This year plans to be their biggest and most festive, yet!

One of our wonderful remodels is the very first stop, the former home of Prime Minister Ferenc Nagy! Additionally, we will host refreshments at the Tour Rest Stop at Arts Herndon, which includes a Holiday Model Train Show presented by the Herndon Historical Society. MOSS is honored to be a signature Sponsor and support this group of community volunteers in what will be an outstanding return for this festive event!

Stunning Blue Tile, Shower Bench, and Steam Shower Functionality Transform Centreville Primary Bathroom

This Centreville, Virginia primary bath remodel completely transformed the space. The customers' goals were to update the bathroom to a more contemporary design from its traditional look and feel (original to the home). Their vision was to remove the large, walk-up bathtub completely and replace it with a massive walk-in shower with steam shower capabilities and a completely tiled bench at one end.

The choice of the Kiln Blue porcelain tile for (almost all the) walls, ceiling, bench and backsplash was made deliberately to complement the bright white cabinetry and the warm brown tiled floor. Before the remodel, the bathroom had a variety of somewhat ornate columns and heavy cabinetry which dominated the room. Now, the space is clean, bright, and spacious with just as much storage as before, and, overall, the updates now better reflect the aesthetics and personality of the customers and gives them the relaxing, beautiful, and tranquil primary bathroom they envisioned.

Bathroom Remodeling & the MOSS Experience

We spoke to one of our MOSS designers, Marta Layton, about guiding customers through the bathroom remodeling process at MOSS. Layton is a Certified Kitchen & Bath Designer, as well as a Universal Design Certified Professional, and has been guiding customers through bathroom remodels for many years.

According to Layton, customers remodel bathrooms for a variety of reasons. Primary bathrooms are often remodeled to create a more relaxing space for unwinding at the end of a long day.

We had to share another before/after of this remodel:
This before and after view showcases the updates MOSS made in this Leesburg home, specifically the removal of walls that formerly separated the space, the addition of floating shelves on the family room wall, and all the updates to the kitchen itself, specifically the double kitchen islands.

Wow! What a transformation for this Leesburg kitchen! Two islands for storage and seating and shifting the appliances plus new cabinetry and countertops make this space much more functional and beautiful than it was before…

Things got a little stranger than normal during this remodel... Wishing you all a Happy Halloween!!

Two kitchen islands? Why not! Our Leesburg customers wanted to effectively use the space they had in their home and enjoy as many seating and prep spaces as possible. We love the functionality of their kitchen and the massive amounts of storage they have as well.

MOSS Mission Monday: We had a great time with the MOPS group at Forcey Bible Church sharing our HandyMOM "Tile It" workshop. It's been a joy to bring our workshops back to to in-person events! Thank you for having us come back again this year!

Incredibly hard to believe, but, yes, this is the same house in north Arlington! With a second level addition, main level bump out in the back and overall siding update, it’s been completely transformed for our customers.
