So, Microsoft has been busy, getting products discontinued. This time it's Microsoft Publisher. Got this message when I opened it today: Publisher is retiring. More information: https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/publisher/microsoft-publisher-will-no-longer-be-supported-after-october-2026
Basically if you use the subscription based Office 365, you won't have access to Publisher and won't be able to open those documents. They recommend you convert them to PDF, and that is a step on the wrong direction for folks that still use it.
Another solution is to use LibreOffice Draw, that will open and edit .pub files.
If you have the perpetual license, then I am pretty sure that will still work, but you will get messages about end of support etc.
Also, Windows 10 support ended On October 14th 2025. They have extended an olive branch by offering the Extended Security Updates ESU program for free to home users and at some cost to business users. I just saw today that the Big M will continue ESU for another year, but will cost $30/computer.
For those that really just want to stay with Windows 10, there is Windows 10 IOT LTSC 2021, that will get updates until 2032!
For those that just want to install Windows 11, and be done with it, there are simple ways to bypass the hardware checks in Win11 setup.
If you have any hardware or software questions or needs. Just let us know.

Public service announcement, we had another compromise this week one of our elderly clients who recently lost her husband, and she received a browser hijack that wanted her to call the number, she called the number, the long and the short of it is is she went to her bank got a cashiers check in the high five figures and took it over to another bank and deposited it per the request from the technical support con artist. She reported it to law enforcement, (and had the presence of mind to record the telephone conversation on her smartphone) as soon as she found out that there was illegitimacy in the transaction, and they're currently working to get that check voided and the funds returned.
But this just goes to show you that we really need to be careful.
Use the one strike you're out rule if there's one thing about any notification whether it's a text message a telephone call something you see when you're on the Internet that's not right, then the whole thing is wrong: do not proceed!
I'm surprised that her bank didn't ask pointed questions before issuing a check of such magnitude.
But at any rate it is what it is, just be careful out there folks and if you have any questions stop and call.
Just like if you're on fire stop drop and roll!
Just a heads up folks we will be closed this Saturday May 30th due to Jeremy's birthday he's taking the day off. So if you have emergency needs feel free to give us a call leave a message and we'll address it asap. Otherwise have a great weekend folks and we'll see you on Monday at 8:30 a.m.

I had the opportunity to attend the 25th anniversary of Anderson's Fabrication celebration today see attached images. Congratulations to Lionel, Connie and Keith not to mention Rachel for their success I wish them many more years of continued success!
One of the frequently occurring issues we deal is working with the elderly. Had a client call a few days ago. Trying to do their taxes with H&R Block, but they were not allowed due to the computer they were using. So I told them to bring in their computer and we would loan them a Windows 11 laptop so they could get their taxes done before the 15th deadline.
They came in and it was obvious that they were at the breaking point in dealing with modern technology and an aging brain.
So we worked with them, got the new laptop setup with shortcuts to their important stuff. Got an account setup on H&R Block, did multifactor authentication, and used our account as a backup so if they lose their password, we can help them get back in.
In the end we have spent about 2 man hours on the client, gratis. Client is barely holding on financially and physically. But is proud and determined to do this themselves.
I also offered them the ability to have our mobile Tech go out there for free if they need help getting the computer connected to the Internet.
Yes, it costs us, but I will not allow this person to give up, when we can help them.
Dealing with the elderly and the infirm is something we have been doing throughout our over 20 year history.
Sometimes it takes longer, but in the end we almost always end up with a satisfied client that is able to do what they need to do with their computer.
As the Beattle's sang: "what a drag it is getting old".
And we have had so many customers that we helped that have passed on.
I am blessed to have helped them, but the grief of never seeing them again on this planet, at least is something that happens...
