On October 10th, the world recognizes World Mental Health Day — and this year, we’re not just raising awareness. We’re raising the bar.

In the days leading up to it, we're inviting you to join us in a simple, meaningful act: wear red socks to show support for mental health. Organize a moment at work, at school, or in your neighborhood. Repost the video. Learn something new about mental health. Share a personal story. Or simply reach out to someone who might need to hear your voice.

Small actions create big ripples.
Visible acts create visible support.
And visible support saves lives.

To everyone who has walked beside us, donated, volunteered, shared our message, or simply listened — thank you. You are part of a movement that’s changing lives.

As September closes, Su***de Prevention Awareness Month officially ends — but our awareness shouldn’t.

The truth is, mental health doesn’t follow a calendar.
Every day, someone near us is fighting a battle we can’t see.
Every day, we have the chance to notice, to listen, and to care.

We are all mental health first responders:

R — Recognize the signs.
E — Engage in supportive conversation.
D — Direct them to professional help.

And maybe start here — with a question that matters:
What if someone you loved said they wanted to end their life?

How would you respond?

Let’s keep paying attention.
Let’s keep showing up.
Let’s keep walking — one red step at a time.

Tomorrow is September 10 — World Su***de Prevention Awareness Day.

It’s a day to pause, breathe, and honor the people we’ve lost. A day to remember that behind every statistic is a name, a story, and a life that mattered.

If you feel called, here are a few ways you can join us tomorrow:

Post a photo of someone you’re remembering

Spend a quiet moment in silence

Donate to a nonprofit supporting mental health work

Send a message to someone who might be struggling

Check in with yourself — your story matters too

Wear red socks as a symbol that no one walks alone

And if you are struggling — or if someone you love is — please know this:

You can call 988.

It’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s staffed by trained counselors who listen without judgment, help you stay safe, and walk with you through the moment. You don’t have to explain everything. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to reach out.

Your life matters. Your story matters. You deserve support.

Tomorrow, let’s stand together — in remembrance, in compassion, and in hope.

As we approach September, we’re preparing for a month that matters deeply to us.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month — a time to bring mental health out of the shadows, strengthen connection, and remind every person that their life has value, their story matters, and they are not alone.

At One Red Step at a Time, our mission is simple and urgent:
To foster open, supportive conversations about mental health by uniting communities, breaking down stigma, and promoting education and empathy — one person, one story at a time.

One Red Step at a Time isn’t just our name — it’s our motto and our movement.

Next month, we’ll be sharing stories, resources, reflections, and reminders that healing begins with awareness… and awareness begins with us.

If you or someone you love is struggling, this month is for you.
If you want to learn how to support others, this month is for you.
If you believe in hope, connection, and compassion, this month is for you.

We invite you to walk with us — one red step at a time.

At One Red Step at a Time, we’re always looking for resources that bring mental health out of the shadows and into the spotlight. "Your OCD Will Hate This Book" by Nathan Peterson (OCD and Anxiety Counseling) is one of those resources — and we’re proud to recommend it.

Whether you’re navigating OCD yourself or trying to better understand and support a loved one who may be struggling, this book offers clarity, compassion, and practical tools that make a real difference. OCD is often misunderstood or minimized, and Nathan’s work helps rewrite that narrative with honesty, education, and hope.

Nathan Peterson is a true change‑maker in the mental health community. His commitment to accessible resources reflects the kind of leadership we deeply value — the kind that empowers individuals, strengthens families, and helps communities heal. We’re grateful for voices like his that make it easier for people to seek help, feel seen, and take meaningful steps forward.

This aligns directly with our mission at One Red Step at a Time:

To foster open, supportive conversations about mental health by uniting communities, breaking down stigma, and promoting education and empathy — one person, one story at a time.

We believe that open, honest conversations are the first step toward healing and connection.

We believe every person deserves compassionate, stigma‑free support.

We believe vulnerability is a strength, and sharing our stories empowers others to do the same.

We believe in building a visible, united community — symbolized by red socks — that stands for empathy, education, and hope.

We believe change begins with awareness, and together we can rewrite the narrative around mental health.

What we do is simple but powerful:
We create spaces — online and in person — for mental health conversations, education, and awareness. We produce content, events, campaigns, and recognition programs that spotlight change‑makers and equip individuals to support themselves and others.

Nathan’s book is one more tool that helps people take a step toward understanding, connection, and healing.

If you’re looking for a resource that deepens your knowledge of OCD — or helps you support someone you care about — this book is a meaningful place to start.

Together, we keep moving forward. One red step at a time.

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

And the reality is heartbreaking:

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association, men account for nearly 80% of all su***de deaths in the United States. And 60% of men who die by su***de have no documented mental health condition on record.

That means most were struggling in silence.

Not because they didn’t feel pain — but because they didn’t feel permission.

This is the silent factor.
And it’s still happening today.

At One Red Step at a Time, we believe silence is the enemy of healing.

So this month, we’re choosing to talk louder, check in more often, and walk with the men who feel alone in their battles.

If you’re a man carrying more than you let on — or if you love one — this is your reminder:

You don’t have to walk alone.
You don’t have to wait for a breaking point.
You can take one small, intentional step today.

Let’s break the silence.
Let’s talk louder.
Let’s walk together — one red step at a time.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to say thank you — to everyone who followed along, shared a post, or took one small (red) step toward better mental wellness. Your engagement and care have made this month meaningful.

Mental health isn’t something we honor for just one month.
It’s something we nurture every day — in ourselves, our families, our teams, and our communities.

We don’t have to wait for May to check in, slow down, or offer support.

Every month is an opportunity to notice, connect, and care.

Let’s keep choosing awareness, empathy, and intentional action — one red step at a time.

How much power is in a pair of red socks? Let's find out together.
