Volunteers and paid-per-call members — see if you can invest 3 hours a week into yourself and your department.

I’m not talking about your scheduled meetings.
I’m not talking about department training.
I’m not talking about the calls you happen to make.

I’m talking about 3 hours of your own time spent training.

And no, I’m not saying you need some out-of-the-box, high-speed, technical training.

Practice the basics.

I know everyone is busy. We all are.

But I also see people show up to every call, then stand around with their hands in their pockets because they haven’t invested the time to become useful when the moment actually comes.

Don’t use “I don’t get paid” as an excuse for something you voluntarily signed up to do.

You don’t need the whole department to make yourself better.

You just need to decide that being better at the job is worth 3 hours a week.

3 hours. 2% of your week. What are you doing with it?

Drop some one person basics skill drills to help our brothers & sisters out within the fire service.

Members of Polk County Fire Rescue traveled to Bradenton Florida to take delivery of a new Pierce/Freightliner 1500 GPM pumper with a 750 gallon Water Tank. The engine was built at Pierce's Bradenton Facility and purchased through Ten8 Fire Apparatus. Once equipment is mounted, the engine will be assigned to Station 3 on Vinson Mountain. It replaces a 2005 E-One commercial pumper. This pumper was purchased using SPLOST funding. We look forward to many years of service from this vehicle as it serves the citizens of the County.

Members from Polk County Fire Rescue recently traveled to Fire Equipment Sales & Services (FES) in Sumter, South Carolina to complete final inspection and take delivery of a new Service Air & Light Unit. The purchase was funded through the 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant as a regional asset through an MOU with Cedartown, Rockmart, Bartow County, Haralson County and Paulding County.
The new truck is equipped with a breathing air compressor, cascade and fill station. This addition will allow firefighters to replenish air on the fire scene for interior operations. The truck is also equipped with an onboard PTO generator, light tower, full compliment of ground ladders and other essential equipment. This vehicle will be assigned to the fleet as Squad 6 and run out of Fish Creek. Truck will be placed in service once training and equipment mounting are completed in the next few weeks. We would like to thank the citizens and County Goverment for their support of Polk County Fire Rescue.
