Sometimes the greatest growth comes from the struggle.

As we kick off another mural season, we wanted to look back at a project that will always be close to our hearts: Floral Energy by GLeo.

For me, this project became a reminder that growth often happens in the moments when you’re stretched beyond your comfort zone. Looking back, I’m grateful for every lesson it taught me and every person who helped bring it across the finish line.

As we reflect on the project, GLeo was kind enough to answer a few of our questions about the creative process, her perspective on the mural, and the experiences that shaped the work along the way. We can’t wait to share her insights with you. Click link in bio to read the full interview.

✨ Dedication Morning ✨
What a wonderful morning to dedicate the Uprka Mural in the heart of Czech Village. This little gem was made possible through the Czech Village–New Bohemia SMIDD Commission, with special thanks to George Drost, a devoted collector of Uprka paintings, for his support.

Today’s commemoration not only honors the mural itself, but also celebrates the cultural threads that tie together the Czech community and the greater Cedar Rapids community. This event also marks the kick-off of Brewnost, a joyful gathering for all who cherish heritage, art, and community spirit.

Mural projects are a journey, and this one truly brought a community together. What started as an idea to have the artist paint directly on the walls took a different turn — but with collaboration, creativity, and teamwork.

A huge thank you to Ben Volta and his teammate, Ivben Taqiy, for stepping in with such professionalism and heart. They brought the original vision to Cedar Rapids in record time, with complete respect for the artists work and vision. Now it’s here for all of us to enjoy.
