Good afternoon from Shellcrest facial Studio, hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Today I wanted to talk with you about Cellular Turnover and what you can do about it.
Cellular turnover plays a significant role in how our skin looks and feels and it describes how quickly skin produces new cells, or how quickly new skin cells migrate from the deepest layers to the top layers of skin. Infants and children's cellular turnover happens every 3 to 5 days but as we age it begins to slow down. In our 30s it happens every 28 to 45 days in our 40s every 45 to 60 days and 50s plus every 60 to 90 days. Slowed cellular turnover is triggered by a decrease in collagen and elastin ( the building blocks of healthy, taught skin,) which leads to a loss of skin vibrancy, lift, elasticity, and firmness. The natural aging process causes this decrease in collagen and elastin. Lifestyle choices like smoking, or spending too much time in the Sun, a stressful lifestyle, poor diet and nutrient deficiencies can cause cellular turnover to slow a lot earlier than our genetics would determine. But we can turn that around with Dermaplaning, Glycolic Peels, LED red light therapy Resurfacing Peels and routine facials. Whether physical or chemical, exfoliation helps loosen dead skin cells from the surface. This stimulates newer fresher cells to rise to the surface - and these cells are usually more full of water which results in an immediate plumping effect and a visible reduction in the depths of fine lines and wrinkles.
