Serviceberry
Amelanchier spp.
This native, multi-stemmed, small tree or shrub can grow to between 3-18 feet tall. It is hardy to zone 2. It can grow in soils with a pH of 5.5-7 and can tolerate higher. In the spring, it has clusters of fragrant, white flowers that emerge just before small, light-green leaves appear. It has edible small, sweet, berries that ripen in early summer. Serviceberries have striking orange to red fall foliage.
